Great Modem That Worked Right From The Start
One of the biggest problems with a lot of cable modems is that you never know what you're going to get until you unbox it and plug it in: will it work with your current devices? Will your ISP recognize it? Will it hold a connection? Does the Wi-Fi work? Can you bridge connections? Can you chain routers? Etc., etc., etc.I've been through quite a few modems over the last ten years, at least six. And I have to say, the Netgear AC1200 has been the easiest to setup and the most comprehensive when it comes to managing it and connecting devices.Yes, it has been one of the more expensive cable modems I've bought, but the features make it worth it. One of the best parts about it is that once you hook it up and power it on, you can access the modem remotely from any device connected to the AC1200 either via Wi-Fi or through a router connection. This is a huge boon, because I've had some modems where you can't access them if you're connected through a separate router connected to the cable modem. Here, it's always accessible and always secure. The setup process is extremely intuitive, as it guides you through the process on setting up the modem for the first time based on your internet provider, but once that's done, there are a lot of great GUI features to make navigating the controls, settings, administration features, and connection rates with ease. One of the biggest problems I've had with past modems is not being able to limit bandwidth or set rate limits, but with the AC1200 you can schedule access based on time of day (which is great if you have kids that you don't want online past or before a certain time), bandwidth limitations to prevent bandwidth caps from being exceeded, as well as access control, guest control, and even 5G connectivity. I'm still learning some of the ins and outs of how the modem works, and some of the more advanced settings, but it's been amazing so far and I love its sleek design, quick boot-up times, and expansive user control settings. Also, being able to hook up multiple routers and bridge connections with nary a hiccup is really why this gets a 5 out of 5 stars.

Easy install--because of my ISP, horrible to get activated
Arrived even faster than I expected, and was easy to install. I'm OLD, and was able to get it up fast, so anyone can do this, but I do hope you have better luck getting it activated... My ISP has notoriously poor service, so that was no surprise. Started trying to get it activated by phone, was told they were swamped and I'd have to call back the next day. Needed my computer badly, and of course, couldn't use my iPad either, so I started trying to get it activated online--again, too busy, try again later...which I did about 50 times--not stretching it! Even got up in the middle of the night and tried again, thinking surely they'd have some time then. No go, just the same old message...started out online again the next morning, and by mid-morning had again tried numerous times, and was about to just put the old router back on--it still worked occasionally. Finally tried the phone again and was able to get through and it took about 5 minutes talking to the serviceman to get the router activated. It works beautifully and I'm very pleased with it, but am WORN to a frazzle from the activating experience. Ugh!

Great for home and price
Great modem for the price. Quick set up. I have Xfinity and it was a easy transition. The Nighthawk app made the set up easy. My old modem was outdated and I was constantly resetting it to get the wifi to work. Since I purchased this one I haven't had to reset it once. Streaming is great with little to no clocking. Great cable modem for the price and needs of home school and work at home in additional to personal.

Faulty as heck
I bought this with the intention of replacing my router and modem at the same time because the router I had has always had slowdown and dropout issues since I bought it (another Netgear router), and it would be nice to not have to plug in two devices.1st problem encountered: Ethernet ports are faultyAfter setting up the modem with my isp (SuddenLink) The wi-fi signal was on but for some reason, the ethernet cable could not be detected. I did everything I can, including a factory reset, and nothing worked. For the heck of it, I tried connecting this product to my old router and from my old router to my computer. It does not make any sense at all but it worked. This would mean I'd need my old router just to have a hardwired connection to the internet.2nd problem encountered: 5.0 GHz band not workingAll devices I had that worked with my old router's 5.0 GHz band could not detect the new router's 5.0 GHz band except for the ps5. The ps5 does detect it but it does not connect to the internet. Even when going to the router's settings and disabling and re-enabling the 5ghz channel did not do anything.3rd problem: wifi speedWith all of these problems, I thought maybe the 2.4 GHz would be decent enough. At first, I was getting about 50mb/s speed (Half the speed of the old router) and after an hour of play on the ps5, I started lagging and started getting 134ping. I tested the wifi speed and it was around 800kb/s download speed and had 9mb/s upload speed. The speed never went back up.The product sent to me is unusable and will be returned. This is my 4th experience with Netgear. 2 at my parent's house, 1 at my house, and this current one that I'm returning. It's always had dropout and slowdown issues but the problem with this one takes the cake. I don't think I'll ever buy Netgear again.
