Port of Mokha Yemen coffee, Premium Whole Bean Al-Wadi Single Farmer Lot 4 Ounce

This medium is a fairly light roast to me, but it yields a kaleidoscope of flavor notes. I highly recommend it. I may order it again, but I'm anxious to try and experience others from Port of Mokha.

We love coffee, and enjoy trying coffees from around the world. After seeing a segment on a morning show about Yemeni coffee, we had to try it, even though it's outrageously expensive. It arrived yesterday, and we brewed some this morning, looking forward with great anticipation to tasting it. I generally use a bit of milk in my coffee, and my husband generally uses milk and sweetener. However, we followed the recommendation to try it black. The packaging says your first taste will be grapefruit, among other things. We definitely tasted the citrus notes. My husband couldn't stand it, even after adding milk and sweetener. I finished about 2/3 of my cup black, and he finished about 1/2 of his. We dumped the rest out - it was really bleah!!! It's super light, and has very subtle flavor - really reminded me more of a dark tea than coffee. No rich coffee flavor at all. Overall, pretty disappointing. (We use an espresso machine to brew our coffee, and a high-quality grinder, which we thoroughly cleaned of other coffee before grinding this one.) Pretty sad to spend this kind of money on a coffee that's supposedly one of the best in the world only to find it tastes like lightly flavored water (and not a great flavor, either).
