VCP-Cloud Official Cert Guide

Fairly good
This particular book is only for those who already have their VCP5-DCV certification. It does not cover any of the basics of ESXi and vSphere Server. It only covers content for the Infrastructure as a Service test. With this book, I was able to go from having no experience with vCloud Director to passing the IaaS test in about 2 weeks. It seemed rather lacking in content, but it was enough to earn the VCP-Cloud certification.

Don't waste your money
Your better off downloading the free white papers from Vmware's site. I do not recommend this book. I would not use this book alone to pass test.

Excellent Material
I recommend this book. The content is easy to understand and follow. For who hold VCP, this book is very valuable to the IaaS exam. Good luck.

VCP-Cloud - another winner from VMware Press
Cloud. One of the more impressive, confusing, and powerful terms in the IT industry right now. VMware, the leader in virtualization (that’s my opinions, sorry!!) has another level of certification out there - VCP-Cloud.This book goes into a great deal of detail in its 300+ pages that will get you well on your way to getting yourself certified. As is standard with all of the other books that VMware Press puts out, this book is exceptionally well organized. Starting off with a brief introduction to what the VCP-Cloud certification means including how to attain it, what tests you need depending on what you have already, and how far into the certification path you’d like to go, this gives you a great overview of that.Right after that. Chapter 2 jumps you right into installing and configuring vCloud. From there, you are taken step by step through the entire process of getting vCloud up and going, setting user levels and security access, and how to use capabilities like ChargeBack, vCloud Networking, Organizations, and all the way though monitoring a vCloud implementation. Each chapter is full to the gills with screen capture, step-by-step processes, and more information than you can possibly shake a stick at.One of the things about this book that I enjoy (if you can really enjoy taking a quiz) is that each chapter starts with a ‘Do I Know This Already?’ quiz testing your knowledge and it ends with a set of Review Questions. I look at it as if I can’t fully answer all of these questions comfortably, it’s time to re-read this chapter until I get it right.Included with the book is a DVD with more materials to help you study for the upcoming exam. There is a ‘light’ version of the Pearson Cert Practice Test included and, with the option after purchasing the hard copy of the book to upgrade to the ‘Premium’ edition (including PDF and ePub versions of the book), you will get two additional exams with additional functionality right from Pearson. So far, while I haven’t gotten my VCP5-DCV certification yet, I do know already that this book is going to be a great reference to be able to speak intelligently about another piece of software from VMware.

The authoritative text on VMware vCloud
The idea of tackling a cloud focused exam can be daunting. Fortunately, Tom Ralph and Nathan Raper (both holders of the VMware Certified Design Expert or VCDX certification) have the necessary technical chops and real world exposure to make it seem easy. The material is focused on providing concrete directives required to be successful with VMware vCloud Director (and related products). This is absolutely necessary for those new to the topic, but are also helpful to veterans of vCloud.Throughout the text, the writers clue you in to the key topics by way of a "Key Topic" flag - this helps sharpen your focus on blueprint items to study further. As someone who has created a vCloud focused video training course, I found the Key Topic flags to be spot on and relevant. Additionally, the sprinkling of special Note boxes felt almost conversational, as if the writers were personally walking me through a vCloud design and configuration class. Both the Key Topic and Note sections give the text a more human, friendly touch - rather than being rigid and just packed with facts. If you're looking to invest in a book for passing the VCP-Cloud, or just want to understand it from the perspective of two VMware experts, this book is a must have.

Getting started with VCP-Cloud - Read the Official Cert Guide
If you're thinking about getting started with the VMware VCP-Cloud certification and not sure where to begin, The Official Cert Guide for VCP-Cloud from VMware Press is a great place to start. Authors Tom Ralph and Nathan Raper have put together an indispensable resource that easily explains terms and concepts to get you ready for the VCP-Cloud certification. At the beginning of each chapter is a “Do I Know This Already” Quiz that helps you assess whether you can skip the chapter and focus on the exam preparation tasks at the end of the chapter or whether you need to read the entire chapter. I suggest doing the quiz and reading the chapter - there is always a gem that you don’t want to miss. One of the things I appreciate are the many screenshots that are found throughout the book. They really help, as you try to do the tasks on your own or just following along in the text.At the end of each chapter is a summary followed by a “Exam Preparation Tasks”, which are a review of the key topics and a set of questions based on the chapter. Answers to all the exam questions can be found at the end of the book along with a glossary of terms.Awesome work guys!

It's shorter than the 384 pages would suggest!
So I bought this on Sunday evening at 19:10 for last minute reading before my VCP IAAS exam yesterday, and I'd actually read it from the start through to the glossary in just 3 hours and 10 minutes! I read this on the iPad and I have the font size up quite large but I've never read a 400 page technical book in that time before - I'm intrigued to see what the hard copy looks like - maybe it's a screenshot per page or something? It really did feel like Amazon UK are selling a draft copy of this book that hasn't been fleshed out yet.The book seems very vague in it's description of certain components although in all fairness it does state this quite clearly at the start so don't be surprised! In terms of the description saying that this is well known for it's level of detail - well, all I'll say is that they should go back and read something by Scott Lowe, Frank Denneman or Duncan Epping and then revisit their official statement on this website as it doesn't match what it actually in the book itself written by the authors! Maybe I just expected deep dive stuff but some of this is just fluffy at times (just like most technical designs you see out there!)I'd done quite a lot of reading of the various blogs out there, and as ever, you really need to be reading the information from the VMware website as pretty much everything you would ever need to know is there in black and white, especially in the Documentation Center. One thing they should be absolutely clearer about, is that this book should only covers the IAAS parts of the Cloud exam - in my case that was absolutely perfect for my needs as that is what I wanted, but if you're wanting to go for the VCP-Cloud and you don't have any / much prior knowledge you will also need to buy the VCP-DCV books out there, and you really can't go far wrong with buying the Mastering vSphere series by Scott Lowe in the 5.0 and prior releases or with his friends onboard for the new one! Those and the vSphere design books should be essential reading for anyone working with this stuff.Technically speaking you should have done the courses beforehand so you shouldn't be coming into this blind, although I'd hope the vCloud ICM material covers things better than this book.I passed the exam yesterday anyway with 97%, but please don't expect to just buy this book and pass the Cloud exam as you'll be in for a shock if you don't know your way around the products. Although saying that maybe this is the intention to reduce the people with paper VCPs? Who knows. If I'd have read this on it's own I'd have more than likely failed the exam - yes it covers the Blueprint to the letter, in some instances just mentioning things in passing that are covered three chapters later, but when you get there again there is just no in-depth detail.Maybe in later versions it would make sense to actually write the stuff in a more logical order, and then just have a Blueprint glossary at the back directing you to where it's actually covered off?

Rubbish!
Useless for exam preperation. And If the premium version of the book is better, then why don't they discontinue this book and just sell that one rather than putting a discount voucher for the premium in this one?. I am only going to judge the book based on what it says and claimes. The title alone is missleading because it implies that it has something to do with VCP. NO ITS NOT! The exams questions are much much tougher and the exam covers far more depth. Also there are print errors in this book with incorrect referrals to the wrong diagrams. Absolutely pathetic!

hmmmm
Not a great example of a VCP book. I know it says it doesn't include the DVD, which is understandable as its the kindle edition but.... previous books i have bought have allowed you to download the DVD content if you desired (after registration) and i did expect to be able to do this with this publication too... as it is almost exactly the same price as the hardcopy. Alas - you cant download the content as far as i could find...

VCPC-510, not VCPC-550
I would have given it 5 stars if it was the VCPC-550 exam but this is the VCPC-510 exam. I really wanted to take the 550 one. Oh well. But, if you are planning to take the 510 exam, the information in it is great!
