A ripping good read
I have just finished and thoroughly enjoyed this frank and amusing memoir in which we witness the surprising transformation of the author from a rather unworldly and retiring young telephone engineer into an intrepid adventurer and skilled driver, who takes groups of unsuspecting travellers on often perilous journeys across vast deserts, through dramatic mountain passes and chaotic cattle-clogged Indian city streets. The well-constructed narrative whisks us along from continent to continent, introducing us to a motley crew of colourful characters on the way and giving us glimpses into their revelries en route as well as their intoxicant-fuelled love lives. Walker is a likeable, sensitive narrator, a natural storyteller....someone we feel we really get to know and would like to meet someday to exchange travel yarns. Five stars from this reader.

Enthrallingly Gripping Book, well worth reading.
Wow, what an amazing read this book proved to be, just couldn't put it down!Steve Walker captures every last detail of his adventure as a young 23 year old overland driver, which at times were grippingly scary whilst at other times hilariously funny!Steve captivates his readers throughout the book with his easy style describing the light-hearted outlook he has on his life as a young man looking for adventure. This he certainly discovers and in no easy fashion, at times defying adversity where others in his situation would most certainly have admitted defeat at the very first hurdle of the first journey of which there were many. His account of the many colourful characters he encountered along the way is so vivid one can almost see, smell and touch each one of them, an absolute delight to the senses!Added to all this, Steve is brutally honest in his account of his personal experiences and how these together with his extremely challenging travel experiences. would in turn define him as the man he then turn out to be.Thank you Steve Walker for sharing with us, your readers, the most eventful experiences of your young life which began on your very first trip abroad as a passenger on an overland trip to Motocco .

Great read!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Steve's book. What an adventure! What an intrepid overland traveller! It transported me back to the 70s and to parts of the world I never thought of visiting. Written with wit, humour and style that makes an easy and uplifting read. Worthwhile a few hours of reading time.

well paced, charming with some laugh out loud moments!
A great romp through a life lived well, full of fascinating characters and tales. Almost unthinkable that a modern 20-something could or would do what Steve did. Great writing sir - you have the knack.

A great book revealing one man's personal journey of adventure travel across Africa and Asia .
A great book revealing one man's personal journey when acting as a Driver/Leader of commercial overland adventure travels across Africa and Asia, mainly in the 1960's/70's. This was a time when the youth of that generation were able to do so with relative ease, driven on by the new found musical revolution and freedom to travel that accompanied it, before the more recent Middle East and African conflicts (and others) reduced the ability and inclination to do so in the same way.
