From the Fields Organic Nutritional Yeast Flakes, 5.5 Ounce

On my last visit to Germany I was served a salad that puzzled me. A simple mixed green salad with vinegar/oil dressing, s&p, and some shaved parmesan on top. Accounting for vinegar variations it should have tasted like any of my salads I make. But it didn't, there was something distinct and a tad nutty tasting about it. So I inquired, and was told that it contained nutritional yeast flakes.I obviously had to order them to spiff up my salads as well. I decided to purchase this particular product solely because it had the organic label and was reasonably priced.Glad I did. I'm LOVING my yeast flakes. This isn't anything I would eat plain and by the spoonful, but you can't beat these to give a bit of something extra to a salad. Slightly sweet, slightly nutty.I'm sure they do not please everyone's palate, but they do make mine happy. Granted, there is the yeasty part. But I love that as well. As an avid bread baker I sometimes sneak raw dough to check for appropriate salt content. So I'm used to the yeasty taste.I keep my flakes in a mason jar with a shaker top in the fridge to keep it fresh and conveniently available for one-handed use.On a side not, I ran out rather quickly and picked up a pack at our local health food store. While I will be using those up simply because I paid money for them, I won't purchase them again. The taste wasn't the same. Time to order another package from The Fields.

I have been buying this nooch for about two years now (more or less when I became vegan), and it is delicious! It has a yummy, nutty flavor with an enticing aroma. I have tried other brands, and although they are wildly popular, I prefer this one exponentially!! The others smell and taste like cardboard to me. Anyway, great source of B vitamins (note that this is not fortified with B12), makes amazing plantbased cheeze, sauces, and "butter", or can be sprinkled on top of pasta, etc. My only complaint is the price point. But some things are worth the extra few bucks... like this nooch!! Give it a try and you will be hooked.

This tasted different to me from other brands I have bought. Different but good, I did like the flavor. Made my cheese very cheese like, and I liked it. Great product, shipped fast, and the package is great.

Gnarly taste!!! Very heavy on the yeast element. Almost reminds me of wine or some brewed alcohol... Very unique. Not like any nooch we ever had but very versatile as usual. Would buy again.

Extremely salty. No nutritional yeast flavor. Ruined a whole double batch of kale chips. Tossing the opened bag and returning the other 6 I ordered. Although Nutrition Facts states 0mg Sodium the ingredients say: Yeast Autolysate, Rice Flour, Sea Salt. Didn't notice this before ordering. Believed "0mg sodium" and "Nutritional Yeast" on front of package. Normally I buy Frontier Coop Nutritional Yeast, thought this would be equal in flavor and nutrition but organic. Frontier Nutritional Yeast is just yeast, and has good flavor, more protein, calcium, B vitamins, dietary fiber. This has no yeast flavor, tasted like salty rice flour. Even though Frontier lists 5mg of sodium it has no salty taste.

A little pricey, but high-quality. Very flavorful and fresh. Arrived quickly. Wish it came in a bigger size, as I use nutritional yeast on everything. However I did notice that I used less of this product than other nutritional yeast I have gotten in the past, because it has a very rich flavor.I love sharing a great find. Why put salt in this?! This salted product is not a replacement ingredient for other brands of unsalted nutritional yeast. It's not great if you want to eat a lower sodium diet or combine with other things that are already salted. Also, the flavor is reminiscent of beer and soy sauce. Could be a desirable property if you like that sort of thing. We bought this for our 3 year old, who is obsessed with putting nutritional yeast on everything as her version of "cheese", so this is not really what we were going for. I have to appreciate it's organic, though.

I have never had nutritional yeast before and since I am dairy sensitive, I finally thought I would try it. I had this for a week or so before getting up the courage to try it. I found I really like Sari nutritional yeast. So far I have used it on popcorn and on vegetables and both my husband and I really like it. Does it taste like cheese - not to us so much - but it has a good taste that we find enhances the flavor of food. It is hard to describe but I think it is slightly nutty and lends a creaminess to the foods we have used it on. We are glad we purchased it and we will keep using this product.
