Batch 58....complex spiced fruit and deep oak. Batch 59....woody, slightly less complex than the 58, less layers of flavour.
A staggering whisky......in every sense of the word!! It is cask strength, meaning that the alcohol content is very high, 60%+, so it is very powerful. But the depth and intensity of the aromas and tastes are phenomenal. The intensity of fruit is really something to behold, complex dried fruit, Christmas cake, dried apricots, stored apples, drying raisins....a wonderful medley of exotic and spiced fruits all held together by a very real sense of the wood....you can really taste the sherry soaked oak. The whisky is Aberlour's reproduction of the original Aberlour whisky. The whisky is created in batches according to the particular take that each distiller has on the original concept. Each batch is therefore subtly different from the others. It perhaps isn't a whisky for the newcomer. It would be a perfect after dinner whisky. A very small amount of water can bring this incredible concentrate of aromas and taste sensations to open like the petals of a flower....just don't drown it! The perfect Christmas gift! Had to buy a couple more bottles as it is on offer at the moment Oct/Nov 2017. Now onto Batch 59....slightly lower alcohol content.... Have now tasted both the 58 and 59....the 58 is very rounded, soft and woody and exceptional. The 59 is also very good but not as complex or full as the 58. My single malt buddy and I have compared the two and found that the 58 is exceptional, the 59 less so but still good, the 59 is woody, harsher than the 58, less fuller in flavour, less rounded, less complex in terms of spice and wood taste and aromas. It tastes as though the 59 spent a lot less time in barrels or that the barrels were almost exhausted. It's so interesting to taste them side by side, how incredibly different they are. The 58 is better but the 59 is still worth £38. What a wonderful world of spirit the distillers have created...a landscape of colours and sensations. I totally take my hat off to the Aberlour distillers...sensational stuff...

A lovely deep and flavoursome Speyside expression
Pleasantly surprised to see this on Amazon at a ‘discount’ price. I have had a few bottles over the years but supermarkets no longer seem to stock it, so pleased to buy another. This is a smooth whisky which belies its 62.9% ABV (batch 005 they do vary slightly). A small drop of good still mineral water does bring out the subtle notes and nuances of this fine dram, at that ABV nothing is lost.I am not pretentious as to ramble on about all the different flavours you will experience but it is a fine drinking whisky, in my case very much a special occasion drink with good friends who appreciate it. It would be totally wasted on anyone who wanted to add coke, ginger etc. let them drink bourbon!

Great value very high quality whisky.
A'bunadh is a deliciously complex whisky, with superb initial almost organgey flavour, a smooth slight berry-flavour on the palate, and a lingering warm glowing after-taste. It comes from a top quality distillery (Aberlour). It is perfectly drinkable without anything added as its smoothness and flavour do not require any addition of water, ice or mixer. I took it to an event in a hip-flask and everyone loved it! My version was batch 77, 61% proof - and got it at a bargain price.

My nephew loves this
My nephew didn't have an alcoholic drink until he was 30, and now he drinks this! It's a very strong, powerful, peaty whisky, which most people struggle with. But it appears to be a marmite drink - if you love it, you really love it. It's expensive, but on the other hand, you don't drink a lot of it in one session! I bought this for my nephew's Christmas present and it was very well received.

Used to be such good value for a marvellous cask strength Oloroso sherried whisky.
Great quality and wonderful tasting Oloroso sherry cask matured whisky. At cask strength it can be drank at full strength or diluted down to whatever strength is personally preferred giving ultimate flexibilty of strength and flavour whatever drinking requirements are at the time. Used to be exceptional value for money until a couple of years ago. Unfortunately since then French owners Pernod Ricard have become over ambitious on increasing their profit margins on this product which has translated into retail prices going up by more than 100% within this time. Now this whisky is not the good value it used to be. At it’s current price, there are now similar alternative whiskies which present better value for money and which may cause sales of Aberlour A’Bunadh to decline in future. Whether reduced sales volume of this product at higher margins improves Aberlour’s overall whisky sale’s profitability is solely in the gift of their senior management. Whatever, bottom line for consumer’s is only bad news.
