Descender Volume 2: Machine Moon (DESCENDER TP)

The artwork in this series got me to book three - the watercolour is bold and expressive and skilful. Amazing. I was transfixed by every image. The writing, though, has no depth or sophistication, no humour - just lunk head cruelty, and a handful of baddies. Basic. Maybe that's the point? With age one becomes ironied out - maybe this is ironic? I'm too grown up to tell. The publishers perform that newish trick whereby a series is more expensive the further you get but then, whammo, they reduce the price of the next one. The pricing strategy is as deft as the writing and I fell for it.

Some really good stuff in here. Like another review said the artwork is a bit of an acquired taste, its more a watercolours sketch and almost every panel is white, that's not to say it isn't good, but if you prefer 'sharper' artwork then just be aware. Story-wise it's pretty solid, a little predictable at times but does catch you off guard in places and has some nice surprises. The characters pretty standard, they need more depth but it's all heading right way. I'm sticking with it.

I enjoyed the 1st book but this one is even better. This is fast becoming a classic series, its a long wait til volume 3 :(
