Just what I needed
Bought this to replace an older blood pressure monitor from a different brand. I like that this has a backlit screen to see the values when it is a little dark. The numbers are big. It links up the data to my phone so I can show my doctor the trends if they need to. It’s very easy to use. I just press the center button to turn on and take my pressure, and then it turns off by itself. It has an option to lock the buttons so it doesn’t get accidentally pressed but I don’t use that function and even store it on my bedside table with the cuff around the screen without accidental on.

Much better than expected
I’ve conducted a one month trial between this model from Etekcity against two OMRON monitors - the Platinum and the Silver. To my surprise, the Etekcity has registered more consistent readings than both of the OMRON monitors. I returned the platinum OMRON because I didn’t need the extra features such as two person capability, etc. At this point, I’m considering sending the silver OMRON back and sticking with the Etekcity. Additionally, the Etekcity consistently measured lower systolic numbers than the Omron’s. I believe there is a difference in the technology.: the OMRON measures pressure on the way down after full inflation, while the Etekcity (and other like the Withing’s) measures it on the way up. That’s my understanding. So possibly this accounts for the lower numbers, but regardless of that, the Etekcity posted numbers much closer together and consistently than the OMRON.One gripe: the Etekcity does not automatically connect to the VeSync app on my phone. I have to tap the screen on the monitor and open the app on the phone. And if I’m not quick enough with a second measure, the connection disconnects, leaving me with no recorded reading. I’m surprised by this. I have the Etekcity smart scale and that connects seamlessly.Developers request: fix the connectivity to the VeSync app, and please create a true full-screen iPad view of the VeSync data. Currently, it only displays and iPhone size data display on the iPad.

Not good for Anxiety-based Hypertension
The concept for this bluetooth capable blood pressure monitor is good. BP readings are clearly recorded, retained in memory and charted for up to two users. It also will send data to my doctor's web portal. The problem is with the controls.I have a case of "white coat" syndrome in which the anticipation of having my blood pressure measured causes a wave of anxiety that is reflected in elevated BP. I also have an underlying case of real hypertension that I need to accurately measure without the measurement being distorted by temporary anxiety. The touch controls on the base unit require a precise touch in exactly the right tiny "sweet spot" to function. There is no tactile feedback to let me know if my touch was accepted or ignored by the unit. I found myself in a frustrating cycle of tapping the buttons, checking the LCD screen, Peering at the cellphone app, and repeating again and again until I finally touched the right spot on the button. All the while, my anxiety level rises and when I finally get a reading, it's at an alarming level.I have had some success by meditating for a few minutes to clear my mind and control the anxiety before taking my BP measurement. I've tried going through the button-pushing exercise to get the unit set up before I begin my meditation but the monitor shuts itself off after a couple of minutes and has to be started up from scratch.I'll be returning this unit. I'll go back to my old Omron monitor that has one big physical pushbutton that doesn't require complex procedure to start. I'll continue to record my readings in a spreadsheet.
