Let’s go Red Wings!!!
I’ve always enjoyed Keith Gave’s writing. It goes all the way back to when I was a kid reading his articles in the Detroit Free Press. He was my first favorite sports writer and he covered my favorite team, the Detroit Red Wings. I’ve enjoyed all of his books. I wish he had more. He has a very smooth and captivating writing style and his books are a pleasure to read. My only complaint with this book is there’s a bunch of typos but that’s the fault of the editor. If you’re a fan of the Wings of the 80’s and 90’s, you love this trip down memory lane !

Nothing new. Like a bland magazine article
Two stars for the bit of insight regarding Kocur’s return and player comments on the line formation. However, there is nothing here! There is no discussion of how the players truly interacted (we became friends). What were the obstacles? What were the friction points? It had the depth of an article or pamphlet. I expected more. There were also grammatical mistakes and got to 80% of the book before calling it quits. I feel like I know nothing more or new about these athletes or the organization (as a fan).

Awesome Story of Four of Hockey's Toughest Players
Fantastic Reading!! Not just for Red Wings fans - this is a great read for anyone who enjoys the sport of hockey! There's not just the "behind the scenes" look at how four amazing players grew up to BE amazing players, but an in-depth look at how Kirk Maltby, Kris Draper, Joe Kocur and Darren McCarty all ended up on the Wings' team. Keith offered a glance at the early beginnings of these players when they were young kids, just developing an interest in the game, and there's a lot of good detail about their individual stats which is what compelled coaches to give them a shot at the big league in the first place. Over time and lots of line changes by Scotty Bowman, they came together and earned their title, and the book's title, The Grind Line. Anyone who's ever had the chance to see these tough guys on the ice together can consider themselves lucky. Anyone who reads this book and comes away with a solid idea of WHY they deserved their own nickname is also, really lucky. Looking forward to experiencing some interesting backstories of writing the book, when Keith visits our local book store and/or library for a meet and greet and book signing! My husband and I have attended a few of his previous lecture events (prior books he's authored), and they're always a good time. Lively audiences, for sure!

The Grind Line by Keith Gave
If you're a Red Wings fan that followed them during the Cup winning years you will love this. It's a great trip down memory lane written by a guy who was pretty close to the team. If you're a newer Wings fan and want a history lesson, check this out. You won't be disappointed.
