The Raspberry Reich

This is my favorite Bruce La Bruce film.If you like art house, left wing , male nudity, and of all things, political satires, then you will love this movie. I have seen this three times and each time I see something I did not notice the previous times. There is a lot of nudity and random political, propaganda, and downright hilarious messages that appear out of nowhere across the action. These messages are defiantly my favorite parts of the movie and a down right brilliant idea from the director Bruce La Bruce.I liked this movie because it is far from boring and if you are not gay, you most likely will not take much away from the film. Just remember, THERE IS A LOT OF MALE NUDITY in this film, but I am not complaining. Yes there is a plot as well, so buy it, watch it, and if you are lucky, you will be glad to own this wonderful creative movie.

While I'd certainly heard of filmmaker Bruce LaBruce before, I'd never actually seen one of his films. Perhaps if I'd seen one before I would have passed on this. But I was curious about the legendary LaBruce and something about this particular film sounded intriguing enough for to me to order it. It turned out to be, in my opinion, really bad and not in a good way (like "Showgirls" for instance). The longer I watched it the more it felt like a bad gay porno movie stuffed inside a shallow imitation of one of Godard's driest, most political films. Now I have nothing against gay porn (I'm gay) and I love Godard, even at his most political, but this muddled mess did not do it for me at all. The porn was insufficiently arousing (Mr. LaBruce and I have very different tastes in men), the acting and production values are amateurish ( and I understand that in some circles that is seen as an asset), and the story is unforgivably, pointlessly dull. It tries too hard to be an art house film. Maybe it would find an audience on an old Midnight Movies schedule. I realize Mr. LaBruce has his fans and even devotees, so in conclusion I will borrow a line allegedly written by the great Dorothy Parker: "For those who like this sort of thing, this is the sort of think they like."That said, the seller did a great job. The DVD was promptly mailed out and received, it was well and carefully packed, arriving exactly as described. I would give the seller 5 stars. The movie isn't his fault.

If shock and awe, along with porn quality live sex, real and simulated, with 'B' level acting is what you are after, then this film is for you. Yhe plot is really weak and the actors unremarkable. Must be why it is critically acclaimed. Then again I didn't but it for the story ark or acting do there!

If you watched and enjoyed Shortbus, why not take a look at the filmmaker that is undoubtedly a major influence on John Cameron Mitchell?Bruce LaBruce is an uncompromising person in a world full of watered-down, milquetoast individuals.I don't want to ruin this film for you, but if you don't find yourself at the very least intellectually aroused by this film then you're not firing on all cylinders- or you're too vanilla to appreciate it fully.

A delightful satire of sex, revolution and politics. Not perhaps for the fainthearted, but I found a very well crafted and acted story line with outrageous characters doing very outrageous activities in an entertaining and amusing context. The "Kiss the Captive" sequence has to be seen to be believed..

Definitely unique. Lots of explicit action occurring in a story that mocks revolutionary angst. Picture, sound, and acting are not that good, but I still would recommend it based on the bizarre presentation.

Wasn't expecting a lot from this movie, so I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The acting is terrible, but it's still a great foreign film. You must be comfortable with seeing sex, gay and straight, to enjoy it.

WARNING! View this only if you want to see it all and I do mean ALL. It wasn't what I was looking for so it is now in the dumpster, shredded so no one else will find it and watch it.

Hier wird eine Art "Sexuelle Revolution" eingebettet in in einen bizarren politischen Kontext filmisch eingefangen.In den meisten Filmen dieses Genres fungieren Männer eher als Statisten, oder gar Steigbügelhalter um ein gewisses Spektrum an nackten oder halbnackten Frauen "vorzuführen" die Szenen, die dann als intim verkauft werden sollen, beschränken sich dann meist auf einen langweiligen "Textilsex" oder künstlich kaschierte abartig peinliche Performance Akte.Das absolut totale Gegenteil in dieser filmischen Darbietung.Im Mittelpunkt stehen eigentlich die jungen Männer, die ihren Gefühlen freien Lauf lassen, oder von weiblicher Seite her angesport und angetrieben werden.Alle Intimitäten zwischen den Paaren, ob Mann/Frau oder unter 2 Männern sind 100%ig authentisch. Man spürt die Natürlichkeit und die Freude, sowie die schauspielerische Kunstfertigkeit der jungen Protagonisten.Auch schämt sich niemand, oder wendet sich gar beschämt ab. Auch Voyeurismus und die Freude mit sich selbst ist keine Schandtat.Ein mehr als ungewöhnlicher Film der seinesgleichen sucht im Bezug auf die Offenheit, das Wagnis und die gekonnte Präsentation von Erotik in einem ungewöhnlichen Kontext.Die meist jungen, gut gebauten Protagonisten, lassen keine Enttäuschung zu und es ist ihnen eine Ehre andere an ihrer unverstellten Freude teilhaben zu lassen.Eine FSK 18 wäre sicher gerechtfertigt, wengleich in dem Film absolut nichts plum, derb oder gar obszön wirkt, viele sind es eben nicht mehr gewohnt eine natürliche Verhaltensweise vorzufinden, alles was mit "sexueller Offenheit" im visuellen Bereich zu tun hat wird scheinheilig in die Schmuddelecke gestellt und die meisten Filmemacher folgen verunsichert und ängstlich dem "Mainstream"Danke für das Wagnis und die grandiosen Bilder, danke auch an die ehrlichen und authentischen Schauspieler!

In the same vein as Frank Ripploh's Taxi Zum Klo, Bruce la Bruce cooks up a sizzling combination of Art House Porn that not only titilates but holds the viewers interest with an interesting plot. Based on the Bader Meinnhoff Gang that terroized Germany in the 1970s, this movie focusses on a small group of Marxist misfits plotting a kidnapping. Breaking all of the rules and norms of the day, they indulge in sex, (both hetero and homo), as a means of casting aside Patriarchy and cutting the ties to all that is "normal" in society. An interesting journey.

Un porno soft intellectuel dans lequel on a masqué toutes les scènes hard.En plus c'est filmé au camescope et ça fait très amateur.

I must admit, there was not so much comedy as "pornography". Although all the juicy parts are "censored" or covered up by the slogans used by political organisations. But I love everything that Bruce LaBruce makes & can't wait for the next film to hit the stores!In short: The Raspberry Reich is a film which explores what LaBruce calls "terrorist chic", cult dynamics and the power of homosexual expression. An "uncut" version of the film has been released, titled "The Revolution Is My Boyfriend", edited by the gay pornographic film company Cazzo Film including erotic scenes edited out in the original version.The scenes are somewhat funny when they are making "love", but the movie is filled with slogans used to convey the politics of the Raspberry Reich. It's bit strange & confusing for general audience. But if you loved such movies as  Hustler White [DVD] [1996 ] or for that matter  OTTO; Or Up With Dead People [DVD] [2008 ] you must certainly will love this one as well!
