Q: Do you have to take the outer rubber size ring off the earbud to use lanyard?

I had the 1st version of the QC earbuds and always had trouble keeping them in my ears. Terrible fit and nothing seemed to work. Traded these in for the QC2 buds and ordered the case and lanyard because of past experience. After receiving the QC2 buds and using them for a while, I found the lanyard was not needed. QC2 buds fit perfectly. Saying all of that, I have used the lanyard only once. To answer your question, you do not need to remove the size ring to use the lanyard. Also note, you have to remove the lanyard to place buds in the charger case. I will not use the lanyard again.

Q: Will the Bose earbuds charge with straps attached?

The quick answer is NO. They will not fit into the charging slot with the straps on. I had the first quiet comfort buds and straps were a must if you didn't want your buds to hit the ground. I swapped them out for the QuietComfort2 buds and there is no need for straps. I purchased the straps and have not used. The buds stay in the ear!
