Beautiful and performant incense holder
I was a bit skeptical about the little mat that comes with the holder but I needn't have worried. It is sturdy, completely fire proof and easy to maintain. The incense stick lays flat on the mat after lighting up and blowing the flame, the cover is then adjusted on top and voilà! Very happy with purchase.

My quest for an effective incense holder continues
Looks lovely, but there's no hole for the incense stick. I assumed the incense stick would fit into the lower part, with the incense coming up through the lattice top, as is the case with similar wooden incense holders. I've put a lit stick through one of the holes in the lid to hold it in place, but the ash doesn't fall through the lid into the container below, which makes it fiddly to get rid of the ash. It's suitable for storing incense sticks, but not ideal for burning them.

Pretty but useless.. so, pretty useless
I read the reviews and saw some of the problems people were having along with some of the reviews saying how this burner works.. it's an attractive incense burner so I gave it a go..YeaaNo.. it doesn't work. I placed the incense stick on the heatproof mat after lighting it and put the lid on.. the incense went out.. took the lid off and tried again without replacing the lid, it burnt for a moment then went out.. nothing worked. Not wanting to waste a pretty burner I fashioned a small lump of clay into the corner to make a hole for the incense stick, like normal holders.. if I put the lid on it still puts it out, but it burns if I leave the lid off! 👏 So I have a pretty messy incense burner with a lid next to it.. totally defeating the point of buying this holder!

Beautiful way to burn incense and contain the ash
Absolutely love this incense holder! I’m so sick of incense ash everywhere from the wooden stick holders, this is super pretty and contains all the mess.I have no idea what some reviewers are doing with theirs showing sticks stuck out the top and then complaining it doesn’t catch ash? You put the stick IN the box, which is lined with a fire proof strip. You then put the lid on and the smoke comes out through the holes.Very well made and painted, no flaws in the finish. Feels solid ceramic - will be ordering more for other rooms

Lovely, but useless...
This looks lovely, but is totally useless! There’s no hole inside to put the incense stick in, which it really needs to have...Apparently, the idea is that you lay the incense stick down on the little mat inside. But the problem is the mat just ends up suffocating the ember, and the stick goes out within a few seconds of you laying it down. This is such a shame, because it really is a lovely looking burner, and it’s a tiny change that would make it ideal. Alas, in its current form it is totally useless.
