Great resource for anyone who works with adolescents
This book is an excellent resource for anyone who works with teenagers. It covers effective communication across a variety of disciplines and topics. I have used this to teach larger groups how to incorporate a strength based-approach both in and outside of the classroom. It gives specific examples to relate the concepts to real-world situations. After reading this book I find myself referring back to it often when faced with difficult situations. It is clear and direct and presents the concepts in a way that is easy to understand and translate to others. The accompanying videos bring the material to life and feature experts in the field as well as youth voices.

Excellent toolkit and resource for professionals and parents
Reaching Teens is a toolkit for professionals, parents, and anyone working with teens/young people. It's so much more than only a book. It's filled with valuable, actionable tools to apply in your professional and personal life and even allows the user to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for ongoing learning and education. The tools are thoughtful and realistic and can be easily applied to many situations to help young people thrive and succeed. Anyone working with young people can benefit from this resource and I highly recommend it if you're a practitioner or parent. An excellent value!

Wonderful Resource, Very User-Friendly
I have so much good to say about this book and the associated online portal! The subtitle ("strength-based communication strategies....") accurately portrays their both positive and practical approach. There is so much excellent, research based information, yet the layout of the chapters and the introductory information make it easy to pick up and *use*! The additional resources and videos in the portal add information and are a great tool for sharing.

The atomic level science of strengths-based youth development practice
The moment I began to utilize and practice the Reaching Teens curriculum my work as a youth mentor, partner, and educator was transformed from instinctive to informed, from well-intended to effective. This study helped me to understand my role differently, centering the young person in a position of strength in a way that I had not imagined before.

Incredible professional toolkit
This book and the online portal is rich with critical information and strategies to work with teens in a powerful, strength-based way. We have used it for ongoing professional development with our staff and can't believe how many professional continuing credits are available. The social workers and nurses in the schools have been grateful for this option.

Cost
Why would such a good resource that could have an impact to help our youth cost so much? There is no reason but greed.

A real tool for Reaching Teens
There are plenty of books out there that talk about the problem, but few have solutions. Reaching Teens is an amazing resource that can be used by organizations or individuals working with youth. With over 20 chapters, this book leaves no stone uncovered. It is evidence based, and written by experts who genuinely understand the field as well as theory. With its multiple platforms of text and video, it meets you where you are. Our staff have been so impressed that we are working to integrate it into our training for the whole organization. This is the one book that everyone working with teens and young adults should have. It provides practical approaches to working with youth who present some of the biggest challenges. It's approach helps us tap into our best caring and loving selves and reminds us why we do this work to begin with.LaMar DavisDirector, UMBC's Choice Program
