Balinese Architecture (Periplus Asian Architecture Series) Paperback – March 25, 2014

So I gained some weight and none of my clothes fit any more so my mom gave me $3,000 for new clothes. When I saw these I couldn't help myself, even though I have to walk around wearing a garbage bag nobody notices cause they can't take their eyes of my feet when I'm wearing these

received book quickly, book itself is a picture book, is cool to flip through

A note of warning that this book is a reprint under a different title. It is the exact copy of "An Introduction to Balinese Architecture" by the same author. I bought both thinking they were different books as there is a 10 year span between publications but this is the same book with different title and a different cover. These editions are yet another elaboration of an earlier title covering the same information "Discover Indonesia: Balinese Architecture" published in 1999 by the same author. I guess this publisher keeps trying different titles to try and sell the same book.That said, the book is a valuable resource on Balinese architecture describing the reasons behind its form and function within the Balinese culture. I would have given it five stars if not for the rather deceptive publishing of the various editions under different titles.

The book is a good introduction to the different building types you can visit in Bali. The photos and accompanying illustrations are helpful. The text is basic and gives reasonable summaries of the buildings. The downside is the tendancy for the authors to repeat topics in the sidebars included in each section. While consistent, it does become a bit redundant. I'd also like to have better access to definitions of the balinese terms used throughout the text. They're good to know, but become cumbersome afte a while. The bibliography will be helpful to those looking for additional information on any of the chapters.
