Great slim adapter
This adapter works great to turn a slimline laptop/server DVD drive into a USB drive for laptop use. I especially appreciate the thumbscrew connectors to semi-permanently attach the cable to the drive, which allows easy transport. One caveat, and this would apply to any adapter: since you’re powering a mechanical DVD drive from USB, I suggest using either a built-in port or a powered USB hub. I didn’t think of doing so initially and the voltage drop from plugging the drive in caused a couple USB thumb drives to unmount that were plugged into the same unpowered hub. Once plugged in though, the drives all functioned fine.

Worth the money, worked like a charm.
I ordered this to use an internal Blu-ray drive as an external one, and it worked great! No additional power source needed, just plug it in and use. I liked how it had small screws to mount it to the drive so it won't come off. I'm very satisfied and I would definitely recommend this product.

Works perfectly
This cable works perfectly on all three laptop optical drives that I've tried. It's USB 3.0 and doesn't require any additional power. Using the drives with this cable to test rip an audio CD yielded very fast, accurate results.

Hot garbage
did not work, provided power to the drive but the drive was not seen by Linux or Windows just gives usb errors and dings like you're plugging in a usb device every 2 seconds.

Easy to setup cable for blu ray drive.
Easy to connect a laptop blu ray drive to my computer. I even managed to modify the external housing to accommodate the plug. Works well with a USB 3 port I'm my laptop. Good value.
