Not exactly  BUT it is used in All Ramen flavor packets
It's MSG a flavor enhancer
It's called often the 5th taste
Food manufacturers  use it in there products  like canned soups frozen entrees 
It's popular in  Asian cooking
It's a Glutamate a flavor enhance element  found in many foods like mushrooms and  tomatoes  adding extra flavor tastes 
It's often made from fermented  corn 
It's fermented  like they fermented 4 example Youghart 
IT IS NOT A TENDERIZER ! As one person states here 
Tenderize uses Bromeline found in pineapple  
Papaya  used in marinade it breaks down protein  fibers to tenderize
If u let it sit too long on naturally  lighter meats in structure like fish and even poultry it can make it mushy on the surface  so it's not recommended for  fish
For poultry only used in marinades  for an hour
For red meats it helps it It's pierced  so it can penertrate the meatballs topical surface
You can buy it in Aldofs brand meat tenderize best used in part added to  flavor full marinades with juices oils herbs spices Bay leaves  put in a zip lock bag and massage in and put bag in bowl to sit a hour to overnight in fridge  but 
no longer often a Glutamate  like Msg is added in marinades so flavors penatrate better
 Lift from marinades and pat meat dry or it will not brown and caramelize  you can bring the marinades to a boil in a small pot n brush on food as it cooks on grills or oven roasting
There's arguments that it gives some people  headaches  and  harmful but this has never been proven
Alot of Chinese take out  places will state WE DO NOT ADD MSG and that can be true BUT Asian foods use many different  condiments  and  they are manufactured with  MSG  so anyone who states that place that dose not ADD MSG  And is better they never get sick 😉 isn't really true since there beef n brocolli  uses condiments  with msg 
So it's a matter of suggestion.
