Great saw for the price ($30.89 at time of purchase)! No battery & you'll likely want a beefy one.
I purchased this version w/o battery, as I already had a second battery for my B&D drill. The saw has done everything I've asked of it so far, including cutting through a 9-10" tree trunk and roots, using a 12" pruning blade. The blade (USA made Craftsman) did well in dirt as well when severing roots. The saw isn't lacking in power. That being the case, it quickly drains the smaller LBXR20 battery. A brand new pruning blade made it about 3/4 through said tree trunk and a couple of 3" roots before the fully-charged battery was emptied. I estimate that was probably less than 8 minutes worth of runtime. So, unless you'll be doing very light work with this saw, or are prepared to keep fully-charged backup batteries at the ready, you're going to want a more substantial battery, at least 3Ah.Unfortunately, a bigger battery obviously adds weight and you'll give up some maneuverability in tighter spaces, due to the larger battery protruding farther off the bottom of the saw. This saw is lightweight, at least with the LBXR20 battery. I was able to easily one-hand it into position and hold it there for cutting roots and branches, and I am by no means a body builder.I was getting horribad vibration at times with this saw — yes, including while using both hands to hold it. If you don't aim it precisely and hold it just so, particularly with certain blades, this machine is powerful enough that it won't bind, but will instead just about separate your arms from your shoulders, or at least give you instant arthritis, or so it will feel.It also really hammers on the palm. After a total operational time of about half an hour, not constant, my right/trigger hand was hurting from the pounding it took. Thick gloves weren't much help, either.I hit the stump a few times at apparently the wrong angle for a few seconds and my brains got scrambled (more so than usual). I literally began feeling a bit "off", not really dizzy, but trust me, it can produce an adverse effect. This is even with (and sometimes especially with) the shoe held directly against the object being cut. So bear that in mind, if you're looking for the least traumatic experience possible with a reciprocating saw. There are other models that are gentler to the body. The included wood cutting blade did just fine with a number of 3" limbs (the largest I've needed to cut with it). I haven't tried it with a 2x4, but it will probably handle that ok.Some people say the tool-free blade holder is problematic on this model, but it has worked just fine for me.One thing missing that some saws have is an LED to illuminate the surface being cut. This is just as well, since B&D doesn't have a clue about where to mount such LEDs (LDX120C drill, I'm looking at you).Like most B&D products, this saw is not meant for everyday pro use, but rather the DIY'er, weekend warrior. So, despite having plenty of power for most tasks, I wouldn't expect it to last long in a torturous, pro environment. If you want a super heavy-duty saw, pony up the dough and get an industrial model, ya cheapskate! ;-)All things considered, this saw is very reasonably priced for what it offers, and I recommend it for the average DIY jobs.

Looks well made and capable
This arrived today well packaged and exactly as described.I was a little surprised at the weight of this unit.I am not suggesting it's heavy at all, but nor, judging by its heft, is it going to break the first it it faced with a decent days work. It looks well made and capable, helping out around the house. This has worked out well for me, already having a number if Black and Decker products batteries and chargers. The saw ability to cut is only limited by the choice of blade. So an aggressive pruning blade for tree work, demolition blade for timber with nails etc and a metal cutting blade for pipework or steel box section etc. That all being said, if your relying on a reciprocating saw for your employment, then I would choose a product from Team Red and Black or Team Yellow and Black.

Got the job done
I used this saw to cut through several 2x4 studs that had a closed wall on the opposite side. The saw cut through the boards like a hot knife through butter with the blade that came packed with the saw.A few negatives I noticed were that the blade shoe pivots for angled or close cuts, but has no way to lock. This definitely didn't stay still while making cuts and got in the way more than it acted as a guide. The blade that came with the saw was fairly long and the shoe was not adjustable, so I had to hold the saw far from the wall to make my cuts which resulted in less than straight lines and a lot of movement in the saw. Pick up a pack of blades of varying sizes that you can swap out on the fly.Pros are that the saw had no trouble making cuts without much vibration of the saw itself making it easy and comfortable to use without gloves. It's not heavy. The reversible blade option came in handy to get the blade into tight spaces, however I wish the saw had two triggers so that it was easier to turn on when holding it upside down. Worked perfectly with my 20v battery I use with other B&D tools.
