Great Sized Sketch Books
These come in a cellophane pack of two spiral bound artist sketch books. Each book has 50 pages, so 100 pages in total. The paper is a good dark black, smooth and is 140gsm. For weight (gsm), think of cheap copy paper as 70gsm, decent copy paper as 80gsm and professional letters as 85gsm – this is a good deal thicker but without being too thick. The pages are perforated just below the spiral wire. I find this really useful as there is less chance of raggedy edges from the spiral wires and saves cutting to get a decent edge. If your work is good and worthy of keeping or framing, then it would require proper cutting with a knife or guillotine. The pads are a nice size to carry around for those unexpected moments and there is no leakage through the paper or dents through to the next sheet from pencil drawings.

Better Than Expected
I wasn't quite sure what to do with black paper but wanted to try and this is really excellent paper. I have mostly used gel pens on it and the result has been wonderful. It also was quite receptive to pastels, good for quick sketching or playing around. I have taken the pages out, folded them as a card and it looks smart so there is that option. I'll also be creating collages using the black background as part of the finished piece. It would be easy to rip or cut into pieces for collage too. I'm enjoying exploring what black paper could do.

Fabulous quality Pad.
This is the first time that I have seen a sketch pad like this...i didn't realise they were available...maybe because I am not an artist but I have to say, that the quality of this paper is wonderful. 140gsm means its nicely thick but not overly so.Not being an artist I have tried out chalk and metallic pens that I have in my possession to try and show the quality of the paper and how these work/feel...the chalk felt beautiful on the paper and the metallic too...obviously has to be the correct medium and colours to do these pads justice but from just using these, I can tell the quality and versatility of the paper quality. They are definitely quality and recommended.

Super quality art pad.
This black sketchbook is really great quality. The paper is smooth and each page is of good thickness. I used it with some Derwent professional quality pastels pencils and the paper showed them off perfectly. The colours look vibrant because the paper allows them to sit on the surface, without absorbing it and diluting the vibrancy of the pigment! Importantly you can blend the pencils, because the paper is of a high quality. Cheaper papers would damage easily and rip, but this remains stable and means you can build up layers of colour and keep working with the pastels with confidence.

Very smooth black sketch paper best suited to ink
There are two sketchbooks in this set, giving 100 sheets of paper in total. The sheets have perforations for easy tear out and are a good size, being slightly smaller than A5. The paper is of good weight at 140gsm and has a very smooth surface. In my tests, the smooth surface worked against pencils which need a little bit of tooth. The same for oil pastels, which slid a little too easily. Chalk pastel was a lot better but this surface is especially good for ink, especially a dip pen with some white or gold ink, both of which stand out well against the deep black paper.

Good quality paper!
I'm new to using black paper but these sheets I will definitely use a lot and with two books included in the pack, I won't be running out any time soon!In the spirit of Halloween, I decided to draw a quick werewolf using white biro pens as a tester and I have to say it really shows up well. They have a nice, smooth surface to draw on and as you can see and I do think that also helps so that it doesn't just absorb all the pigment and create a faded look? But the quality of paper is really nice.Haven't tried white pencil yet but from the results of the biro test, I believe that it will definitely work well still!

Metallic KO
Great little pads for my ongoing metallic pens project. Keeps the colour well , the paper surface does not act like a sponge and absorb too much or make the ink run.Really well though out...spiral bound ...so you can keep the work together easily..and page back to something you did earlier..and you get the full flat page. The perforated pages mean that you can remove pages with a clean edge not like tearing out of a normal spiral bound pad...great if you want to scan the pages ..which I do.....Haven't tried any other medium on these like chalk or coloured pencils/pastels...but I imagine results would be satisfactory as well!
