Single phase in single phase out, but at a variable frequency to control the speed of a synchronous motor. I have used these before to either control the speed of a lathe motor or generate 3 phase power for lathes and milling machines. This one was bought to slow down an industrial sewing machine for leather work. Fitted easy. Wired up simply. It works a treat. Just turn the knob to lower the output frequency and hey ho, the motor runs slower allowing the unskilled sewing machinist, like me, to sew at a slower rate than standard.
