PFEIL "Swiss Made" Intermediate Carving Set, 12 Piece

Very high quality. Very pleased with this purchase.

This is my first set of "real" carving gouges. I got the intermediate set because the full size set was about three times the cost. The handles can be a bit small, but they work well when you get used to them. The blades came nice and sharp and hold an edge well. Periodic touch-up with some leather and polishing compound keeps them in good cutting order. I've got a couple of the full-sized gouges from Pfeil as well and they're easier to use due to their size, but there is zero difference in the quality of the tool overall. This is a great deal for the price (even though they went on sale about a month after I bought them).

I am relatively new to carving, but I knew the value of sharp tools. I thought mine were sharp, until I received my set of Pfeil gouges.What a difference, and what a dream to work with. Since my carvings tend to be medium to small pieces, this intermediate set of tools handle perfectly for me.The beveled handles not only provide a better grip, without having to squeeze the tool, but they keep the tool from rolling when you put it down on your table or bench.They have helped make my carving experience even more of a pleasure. Also, I recently took a carving class taught by an expert caricature carver. I was not surprised to learn that these very same tools were his tools of choice. I couldn't be more pleased with them.

Oh man! PFEIL all the freaking way for me!!! I had first bought another pair of chisels because I am a complete novice when it comes to wood working and they were nice, however, I needed more chisels and different sizes so I kept reading amazing reviews on this brand. Let me tell ya, I almost messed up my carving because I was not expecting them to cut the way they did. These babies are SHARRRRP! I was carving on basswood and the motion was smooth. I read another reviewer say they cut like butter and I completely agree. It's so amazing when you experience something for the first time where a tool is NOT made in China. You can really tell there is real craftsmanship behind a product and I am more than satisfied with these. I just got finished ordering a different set and can't wait till the package arrives.

This review is not of the set I had hoped to buy from Amazon. Unfortunately they shipped me the 6 chisel set instead of the 12 chisel "open box" (reduced price) set I had ordered so it had to go back (rare mistake on Amazons part - got the refund very quickly)Since then got an unused 12 chisel set off everbody's favorite auction site.The chisels are very well made, and are extremely sharp on arrival.This brand of carving chisels are recommended by the instructor for the wood carving class my wife and I are taking next semester, so they will be getting some serious use then. I will try to add to this post after the class with impressions of them in use.Initial impression is very good.

Came sharp and my “go to” tools! I love this set and have found myself unable to put down once I start carving. Came super sharp, only had to strop after hours of use. The best- hands down ever. It is a jump in price to get better tools, but the size of handles and blades are just perfect for me and I can say without a doubt that they are worth the investment. I wish I had more😊

I'm so disappointed. I was so excited to use these and when I received them and opened the box there was only 11 pieces. Now I have to send it back and wait even longer to get started.

Very good high quality razor Sharp. I own alot of tools by far these are the best. I look forward to using them as they are life time tools.
