Use all the time
Got this for a kayaking trip coming up, but it's so easy to use and pic quality is so good we use it all the time.Battery life is poor - so I bought a 3 pack 3rd party set of batteries.

Great GoPro
I have used this GoPro on my kayak several times. The image is very stable and the photo's taken are great. It took me a while to get used to using the voice controls but they are so helpful when you are on the water.I will be buying another one soon. The only issue I have is the battery life isn't as long as I would like.

Go Pro 8
Getting used to itUsing it for YouTube streaming. I wish the pic was a little better, but I’ll work with it.It is compact and after you learn it and get the feel of how it proforms it’s great.

Awesome
Other than the battery life. This camera lives up to its brand name...

Expected more, but just not a very good product
I had high hopes for this camera -- bought two for Youtube channel content -- but they failed in so many ways I returned both cameras. Major flaws are 1) terrible battery life, 30-45 minutes recording in 1080/30fps (lowest quality setting BTW). 2) Camera overheats when used outdoors on a summer day, and in other conditions it gets too hot to handle. 3) Videos are broken into ~11 minute clips due to a ancient filesystem limitation on the camera, which makes editing a pain later. 4) power button very hard to press, takes several tries. 5) camera does not appear as a USB storage device when connected to a computer (like all other digital cameras since forever) so transferring content to a computer is tedious -- either need to take out the teeny SD card every time, or transfer to a smartphone app then to the smartphone photo album and then transfer to the computer. Or pay GoPro for a Cloud plan -- yeah right. 6) Quik smartphone app has nice features but lots of bugs and a messy user interface design. 7) design of the camera's side door is moronic, making it a pain to access battery, SD card, or charge port.I will say that video quality is great when this thing works, but over a period of 2-3weeks I got so fed up with the other issues I finally decided to send both cameras back for a refund. I have no idea how GoPros are so highly rated or so ubiquitous in the action camera world. Maybe it's lack of competition. I just don't get it. I might put up with some flaws for a less expensive camera, but at $300 each, plus $40-50 in accessories to use each camera, I had invested around $700 on the two cameras and felt like it was a massive mistake.

I want my HERO6 back...
I completely regret upgrading from a HERO6 to this HERO8. Looking at what both the HERO6 and HERO8 can do, the 8 does none of it any better. In fact, I think the 8 gets hotter faster than the 6 did, at the same settings. The 8 just has more top end ability but it's horrible at it.Totally disappointed.

Great camera when it works!
I really wanted to like this camera, but it is VERY unreliable. When it works, I've been very happy with the image and video quality. We've used this quite a few times skiing and on the road, both videos and time lapses. I really like the Hyperlapse functionality! However, the camera is VERY, VERY unreliable. (Did I mention it's unreliable?)The worst thing is that the camera WILL NOT TURN ON around 50% of the time. Of course, this is usually right when I want to use it. I can swap in and out batteries, plug it in, etc, but nothing changes. The camera will refuse to start up for several hours. This is with the various tricks to reset it (for instance, hold the button for 10s, then release for 3s, then press again, etc). The camera will just decide not to start for a while, and that's it. Usually it puts itself out of commission for the whole day. So I lose all ability to use it for skiing, or a road trip, etc. When it does turn on, it won't connect to a smartphone very well. The phone will fail to connect pretty randomly, roughly a 40% failure rate. Fortunately, this appears to be completely random. Trying over and over usually works. Why is this thing so unreliable? I have no idea, since the camera provides absolutely no diagnostics at all. It just won't work about half the time, and you'll have no idea why.I'll get another sports camera. I'd recommend people avoid the Hero8 since I really need a camera to be reliable.
