The easiest way to slow down a Lego motor
The media could not be loaded. Lego motors do not have a variable speed control. if you want to slow down the motion of what it is attached to you can use reducing gears, smaller to larger. Or for the slowest motion use the worm gear.box On the recent small Lego Ferris Wheel I used reducing gears (up to the 40 tooth one) but felt it was still too fast to be realistic. The worm gear box assembly is the perfect speed. Note: you have to attach worm gear rod into the motor, not the geared side. The only thing to change out is the length of the connector on the geared side to go into the Lego item to be motorized. Check out the video clip.

More torque, too much play
I was coaching a kids Lego League team and they were struggling with how to get their robot to apply more force to a mission model. The kids tried different gear ratios and still couldn't find what they needed so I bought this to introduce them to worm gears. The clear plastic case was great for letting them see what was going on. The one downside to this was it had a lot of play in the gears so when you ran up against a stop with the arm it was driving the motor would keeping going taking up all the play. This made it harder to get the positional accuracy we needed for some things.

Gearbox
We purchased this to use with our Hedwick the Owl and the Lego motor. We wanted to motorize the wing flapping. The Lego motor is too fast. The gear box works but we are having trouble marrying it to the Owl and the motor. We need to build a stand to make it work.

Son loved it
My son was super excited to receive this piece it helps him to moderate the speed he wants to use for his little creations with his Legos he attaches it to a power function motor and it slows it down some

Critical piece missing
Worm gear is apparently not included in the item, even though it's in the picture and in the description. Bought the item twice - both times no worm gear.
