Purchased for my Own Home
The main reason I purchased this was to have an "Elf" watching my granddaughter during her visits with us. She also has an Elf in her own home that reports back to Santa every night.... I figured I would extend the whole story of the Elf on a Shelf so she would understand that Santa does indeed have helpers...everywhere! She is three years old and her parents and I actually think that Santa and his Elves pretty much got her potty trained! When she realized that Santa was "watching" her, that was it....she did it for Santa! I purchased the girl Elf, (and her little skirt separately). I think the girl Elf should come with the skirt, but it doesn't. The skirt costs $6 and just wish I'd thought to make it myself, which would have cost me nothing! Oh well, live and learn. Yes, I would recommend this, but if you buy a "girl Elf", save some money and make the skirt yourself! At a distance you can't tell the boy from girl Elf, so having the skirt really wouldn't matter anyway.

Magical, fun and useful!
Loved this! Great for my foster kids who needed a little extra joy, an incentive to improve behaviors and a motivator to get up and ready in the am so we can see what the elf is up to each day. Love Love Love this!

My daughter called her "my best friend".
My daughter's 3rd grade class received an Elf on the Shelf the day before Thanksgiving. My daughter sat down and wrote a letter to Santa asking for her own elf. A few days later, her elf arrived. We have had fun seeing where "Winter" would show up each day. Christmas Eve, my daughter put together a little gift bag for Winter. So, at 2 a.m., I was out getting little presents to put into a gift bag from Winter for my daughter (including a "Best Friends" necklace). This will probably be my daughter's last Christmas believing, and the elf made it a little more special.
