Small sections on different topics supported with colourful and fun illustrations, straightforward and easy to understand.
Bought for my 12 year old son. Small sections on different topics and illustrated throughout - making it easy to read for the more reluctant reader with the small chunks of information covering just enough without being off putting. He has covered quite a few topics in his last year at junior school but felt he may need a refresher now he's started 'big school' and something he can dip into as opposed to 'googleing' and being overwhelmed with (sometimes inappropriate) information or misled by stories via school kids. More about the changes which occur to boys bodies during puberty (including emotions and feelings) and why than actual sex (2 pages do cover this as well). Also a small section on girls and the changes which occur to them - just as important they know some basics on this subject too.Would recommend. I am hopeful that my 12 year old will find dealing with his changing body easier if he understands why and has an idea of what to expect.

I would recommend this book!
This is a very interesting book with a lot of information for any young boy to read, My son is 9 he's asking questions about lots of different things that his body is doing and going through since the age of 8, he's very comfortable talking to me about what's on his mind and I'm always happy to lison and make sure he knows that everything is completely normal and that he doesn't need to worry about anything he can always come to me about anything, I've had a look through the book before handing it over to him obviously, he was very happy to receive the book and read through it on his own and ask me the odd questions and show me what he's going on about in the book, these also parts in the book about the changes a girl go through which I think is also good for a young boy to know which also has detailed pictures, The book is very detailed but for all the good reasons. My son's mind is more settled to be able to read about the changes he's going through also look at pictures that are completely normal and all about growing up!

Excellent, well presented, realistic, open
Read this with my 10 year old boy over the summer. Some of his classmates are beginning to develop so I felt it was worth getting in with correct information before false rumours start at the first signs of an underarm hair or swelling breast. My boy is physically on the younger side and a long way from any of this happening to him, BUT he needs to know what is happening to his peers so he is properly informed and less open to teasing/misinformation if he takes a little longer to get there. I feel this and the girls book should be combined into one as development at this age is about secondary sexual characteristics and sex is not something that happens in isolation! This book is comprehensive on the boy side. I felt Dr Christian's book was better (despite hating his program on TV).For the more delicate parents who don't want to discuss too much anatomy or older concerns with peer pressure (re sex, drugs) have a flick through the books first as all these areas are covered. My son wasn't phased and easily saw what was immediately useful to him and what was a bit further down the line. Forewarned is forearmed. He has the books in his box for reference whenever he needs to.

Great book!
Just love this book. My son is currently being subjected to other boys talking about body changes in a quite perverse way, so this book has been a life saver and safe space for him to ask about it all when he gets home from school.

Informative at an age appropriate level for my almost 10yr old
My child has not been interested in learning about anything to do with their body changing but this book captivated them and gave us a platform to educate us both on what will happen in puberty. The fact this book also covers girls bodies at the end is great, I want my child to me the workings of both bodies so they can empathise and understand the difficulties and challenges all children face in growing up, regardless of gender.Even I learnt things about male puberty I had no idea about and I am mum to an adult son too.

Purchased for my 9 (almost 10) year old son. Read some of it with him and then let him read the rest. He seems very happy with it - does go into detail but I think it’s probably the right balance between enough detail and not going over board at this age. I was a bit hesitant at first as other reviews had suggested it was for older children around 12+, but I think it depends on the child and also, mine seems to be getting to hear about a lot of this stuff from the playground etc already so I’d rather he had the facts from me and can feel comfortable talking to me about it. I used the book as a discussion prompt between us and felt it worked well as it doesn’t just focus on sex it covers a lot of physical and emotional changes to expect too.

Good book for older boys
This is a really good book, informative but in a child friendly way. It does go in to a lot of detail and it has bits about girls too which can be helpful for boys to understand as they get older. My son is 10 and finds it super embarrassing just now but he didn’t throw it away and I am guessing he will look at it in his own time which is what I bought it for. It is straight forward and covers everything from hygiene, how your voice will change to how your body changes. I would recommend this.
