Updated and In-Depth Review
This is an updated and in-depth review after receiving my replacement metal detector. The first one I received had previously been returned by someone else. The shipment was fulfilled by Amazon and not the seller, so it wasn't the sellers fault. Also note that I was not compensated in any way, shape, or form for this review, nor was I asked to update my review. I wrote such an in-depth review because I was impressed with the way the seller reached out to me with support after reading my previous review. Now on with the review, and I will offer some tips at the bottom that will hopefully help you out with your hunts.Customer Support: Customer support from this seller is outstanding. As soon as the seller saw my previous review, they contacted me and offered me a full refund or a brand new replacement. They stated that I could keep the defective metal detector and that I could deal directly with them as opposed to going thru Amazon. However, I had already sent the defective detector back to Amazon for an exchange. So you shouldn't have any problems with support, and they truly do care about customer satisfaction.Owner's Manual: This is a very thorough and in depth manual. It's easy to understand and even has a troubleshooting guide in the back, which covers pretty much any situation. They also have their contact information for support.Detector: This is a well packaged, lightweight, and sturdy metal detector. It seems to be made of durable materials. It's easy to adjust and it folds up easily and efficiently. It also has a rechargeable battery as opposed to a 9 volt battery, which was a big selling point for me. There is a red indicator light on the side of the LCD screen that illuminates when charging. However, I didn't see where the light turns off when it's finished charging. So you will have to check the LCD screen to see where you are, as far as the battery capacity is concerned. The only time the battery indicator light cut off is when I unplugged it. This isn't a big deal as far as I'm concerned, it's just good to know. I did test different metals and coins (both old coins, as well as recent years), and they all registered correctly on the LCD screen.LCD Screen: The LCD screen is easy to understand and operate. You have a Pin-Point feature, a target ID, a notch feature to eliminate unwanted metals, a discrimination feature to eliminate metals starting from iron and working up, and an aqua blue backlit screen. I love the aqua blue back light and the color really sets this metal detector apart from others. I will say that IMO you are better off notching out metals rather than using discrimination if you're concerned with search depth. Using discrimination usually decreases the search depth, even more so than using the notch feature. This is true not just for this detector, but for all detectors. (Note: LCD screen is not waterproof.)Search Coil: Search Coil is durable, waterproof, and gets the job done. I like the square shape as opposed to the round shape. (Note: Only the search coil is waterproof.)Accessories: It comes with a charging cable, padded headphones, a foldable and conveniently sized shovel, and a sporty backpack for storage and transporting.**TIPS**(1) You don't need an expensive metal detector to have success. Most people that use expensive metal detectors usually do so because they either contract a lot of work from people, they do a lot of work for historical or archeological societies, they need a fully submersible detector for ocean and river beds, or they just prefer the best technology and money isn't a concern.(2) Don't worry about what your favorite treasure hunter has their detector set on. This is irrelevant unless you own the same make and model. The best resource for settings is the manual that came with your metal detector. The engineers that designed your detector included a manual that's specific to that particular metal detector. Additionally, trial and error is the best course of action when learning your new metal detector.(3) If your metal detector is beeping like crazy then you are most likely detecting in highly mineralized soil or have some kind of electromagnetic interference. If this happens, turn your sensitivity down. If you are still having problems, move to a different area. If all else fails, check the troubleshooting guide in the back of your manual or contact support. Note: I would not recommend completely eliminating iron if you are in a historical area. If you do this there's a good chance of missing a lot of historical relics that are made from ferrous metals (i.e. bayonets, cannon balls, civil war musket barrels, etc...).(4) Understanding Coins and Dates:* Pennies that were minted in1981 or earlier are 95% copper. Pennies from 1982 are a mixture of 95% copper pennies and 97.5% zinc pennies with a copper coating. To find out which ones you have you will need to weigh them. Copper pennies will weigh 3.11 grams and zinc will weigh 2.5 grams. Anything after 1982 is 97.5% zinc with a copper coating.* Dimes, Quarters, Half Dollars, and Dollars that were minted in 1964 or earlier are 90% silver. Anything after 1964 are copper-nickel clad coins (copper core with copper-nickel outer layer).* Nickels that could be worth more than their face value depending on condition are as follows: Liberty Head Nickels, Buffalo Nickels, Jefferson Nickels made before 1960, and 1942-1945 Silver Wartime Nickels. This is a solid metal detector IMO. But just like with anything, it will take some experimentation and practice. Sensitivity varies from one detector to the next. HAPPY HUNTING and GOOD LUCK!

Metal detector
My husband loved his metal detector. It has a square bottom rather than round which he really liked. It is light weight and very easy to use. It is very accurate in detecting metals etc.

Shovels bad buy separately
This is my second GT1000 metal detector. One for me, and one for my son and his kids. Works OK for fun searches, but the shovels are both bad where the top threads are at. One was cracked and both impossible to losen and put on. Not worth hassle so buy separately.
