Pocket safe and with a sharper line.
The next best Kuru Toga pencil you can get is the Roulette model: Uni Mechanical Pencil, Kuru Toga Roulette Model 0.5mm, Silver (M510171P.26) and it costs half as much as this one. Is this one worth the extra cash? Let's make a comparison.Let's start with the similarities:- Kuru Toga mechanism- Solid, metal clipAnd that's about it. These are very different pencils. Now the differences. The Advance has:- A sliding sleeve- A rotating system that is twice as fast- A wider, shorter eraser- A solid plastic body- An okay but small grip- Very nice color optionsThe Roulette has:- All metal body- Long, knurled gripKuru Toga certainly provides a better and more consistent line than one is used to with other mechanical pencils, but It's very clear that the original was tuned with Japanese students in mind, who use a lot more distinct strokes when writing than we do with the Latin alphabet, which means that it didn't work as well as it could with English. The Advance, however, provides the nice clean line that I always dreamed of getting from the Kuru Toga mechanism. The sliding sleeve on the advance works very well; it does not ruin you line, and makes the pencil pocket safe. The point that it makes may help the sleeve slide more easily as well.In terms of feel, the Roulette wins. That is why I still use it. As far as I know, metal trumps plastic every time. The Advance has a better line and a sliding sleeve that let you write for longer without pause, but the Roulette's grip is just way, way better. And even though the Advance is relatively fancier, it's not as professional looking. The eraser in the Advance is not functional. It's the typical "cap" eraser that you'd never use. It is very flimsy. The one on the Roulette is small, but purposely so. It is solid and long. You can tell it's meant to be used, albeit for small details. This is one of the reasons I see the Roulette as a graphing pencil. For both I use an external eraser when writing, but for small details or in a pinch the Roulette's is much better. All in all the Advance is a great pencil. I think it was worth my money, but it's a bit pricey. So depending on what you are looking for, you should consider the cheaper but excellent Roulette as well.

Could be more sturdy but writes very nicely
I often have to use a pencil for school and I prefer mechanical ones over traditional pencils. This pencil although in my opinion has a couple flaws is a wicked nice writing implement. The lead rotates so you always have a nice fine point to write with and the barrel color is super bright and sharp so you know it's yours. It stands out from typical mechanical pencils. The flaws and these are just personal grievances, are that it's very light weight. I would like it to be just a tad bit heavier in the hand. Also this is one of those pencils where you pull off the cap, pull out the eraser to add more lead which can be a pain if the eraser is worn down. I like pencils like ones from Pentel where the body opens in the middle to add more lead. This pencil uses the 0.5mm lead and does write very nicely mainly I wish it was a little heavier in the construction to give it a more sturdy feel.

Just a great pencil!
I love using pencils instead of pens. I thought I'd try this, and it works very nicely. The green color is a bonus. seems durable.

Brilliantly Engineered, Disappointing in Detail
The media could not be loaded. I received this pencil after thoroughly scanning others' reviews and videos, and have to admit, I was still very impressed when I finally received in person. The self sharpening clutch mechanism with the double speed is nothing short of amazing. I noticed a visible improvement even over the standard Kuro Toga I already own.I was skeptical about the auto advance which allows the lead to be concealed in the pipe, preventing breakage. This works very well (see video); I've tried at different angles and the pencil has never failed. The pipe retraction is perfect, making it suitable as a carry around.Green color is beautiful.Clip is a huge step up from the flimsy plastic clip on other versions.Feel is acceptable. Not as good as my Rotring 600, but for general use especially away from the office, the diameter and grip are fine.Negatives?Eraser- many others have complained about this, but for my part, I've never liked any internal eraser on mechanical pencils. I only use out of convenience when in the field. In the office, I stick to my Pentel Click Eraser.Seam - this is why I took a star off. No other review mentioned this. After being wowed by all of the unique features and thoughtful design, the visible seam (pictured here) came as an extremely unpleasant surprise. Even the cheapest of my writing instruments don't have this flaw. For so many upgrades, this just cheapens the entire effect. All of that said, outside of my Rotring 600, this is an amazing writing instrument. The seam flaw while annoying, pales against all of the positive features of this pencil. It is a must for any collection, especially for those who will be carrying it to use on the road.

Incredible
Best mechanical pencil I have ever owned! I wish the eraser was bigger/better, but this is a pleasure to write with

Awesome
Good mechanical pen well designed very lightweight for people who don't like heavy writing utensils. Smooth and thin writing can be done without difficulty for when you have to take notes and don't have a lot of space.
