As a beginning Chess player, I took quite a bite of time researching Chess sets, reading reviews and comparing products. I was looking for a board size in 15 inch area, with rank & file markings, either weighted or magnetic.I considered a none folding board since I wasn't going to travel with the Chess set although I would want a storage bag for the one piece board. Since my wife and I are beginners, my budget was low for now.The leather surface of this board was my choice because I thought it wouldn't dent or scratch as easie. The strong magnets were a plus.Upon opening and inspecting this chees set, I found it in perfect shape and looks and feels solid. I'd pat me on the back, if I could.This an update.After leaving chess set out for several days, I did notice that the leather play board covering had lifted in several places. Some other buyer had expressed disapproval of this lifting. The raised areas are only noticeable with reflecting light angle which doesn't actually affect the movements of the Chess pieces. This defect is acceptable to me but hope manufacturer will take notice and change the application of contact cement to eliminate this defect.2nd update.Upon furtherinvestigation of lifted leather covering, I don't believe the actual leather has separated from what ever material it is glued to. I suspicion the lifting is the metal used for magnetic attachment of the Chess pieces to game board. Or it's wood veneer separating. Only the manufacturer will know for sure. Still not a problem for me. I would buy again.

I bought it as a birthday present for my niece and she loved it. She plays chess a lot with her sister and they have a lot of fun with it and they love them magnetized figures.

The board is covered in leather, and it feels super fancy. Plus, the magnets are super strong. You can even flip the board upside down, and the pieces won't fall off. It's perfect for playing outside on a windy day or in the car. The chess pieces are made of wood, and they look and feel great. They're a good size, so they are easy to pick up and move around. I purchased one for my son who is 13 and he was impressed by the quality.Overall, this chess set is totally worth the money. It's a perfect mix of style, function, and convenience. My 7 yr old great great nephew received this gift from me for Christmas and he totally loves it. He said “now aunt Gigi, I’m not going to lose the pieces because they stay on the board!! This was THE BEST gift I could have given him! Having this chest board makes him feel like he’s moved to the next level of playing in his game. The chess board itself is very distinguished looking and the pieces feels great as they are nicely polished. The board game is also its board case making it easy to close up shop. This chest set was definitely well worth the money spent. Anyone regardless of age, if you love playing chess, this is the chess board set foryou!

Love it! Even though it is a Staunton set

My son and I play chess almost every night. Our old chess pieces would get knocked off the table and the dog would ultimately end up chewing them. I’ve had this board for about a month and it’s been great. It also looks relatively high end, so it’s a nice table center piece.
