Q: Is it a matte finish also is it bright red?

Hi, I got the blue one so not sure about the red but mine is kind of right in the middle of matte and glossy. It is a flat color that has a little *glare* to it in bright light but not super shiny. I hope that helps!

Q: The yellow is not at all the same yellow. I would like to paint over it. What kind of paint should I use?

Any kind I'd think, but probably some chalk paint would look nice

Q: How tall is the opening? or, if i have a wall ac unit that needs to clear a 30” height, would this table work?
