How do you insert the batteries?

I had to contact the manufacturer with the same question. At the seam of the candle, you carefully split it, insert batteries then snap it closed. I have not used mine yet so hope it works .

where is the off/on switch?

Take the candle part out from the lamp. The switch is on the bottom of the candle
