I returned this product with a detailed note... Not only were the pins unfinished (flashing on the ends that would scratch), There was a straight pin that had been inserted in a pin hole with the normal pin. It actually stuck in hand. Someone during the assembly process had inserted it, or if the pins were inserted by a robot, the input batch was contaminated. You should not be asking the question about the length of the pins... you should not be shipping this product.

Q: Does the picture stay in place after you remove the object? If so, how do you reset the pins?

The pins stay in place after the object is removed, until you turn the pin art upside down, which resets the pins. It's lots of fun! Evidently there is a wall-sized pin art at one of the museums in Washington, DC.
