Absolutely Jaw Dropping! A Must See & A Future Classic
After skipping this one at the cinema based on some online reviews (big mistake) I bought this on Blu-Ray and watched it around four times the first week I had it!!!!! Fantastic, well made, well acted, well scripted, practical effects where possible, engaging and thought provoking story and themes, Interstellar will grow on people as the years go buy.Ok for all those people wondering if people only love this film because of Christopher Nolan............No lol. I am no great fan of Chris Nolan, I enjoyed Inception, the Batman stuff was ok, but only ok it hardly a masterpiece. The Dark Knight suffered from bad pacing and the end was cobbled together and rushed. Tried to fit too many things together and then cut the length. Dark Knight Rises was almost completely nonsensical.Interstellar on the other hand I honestly think will one day be held up alongside 2001: A Space Odyssey for it's deep themes, practical effects, and intellectual/heady content. Remember no-one liked 2001 when it came out either! My only complaint which is very nit-pickey was the love conquering all theme which I felt was shoe-horned in to appeal to a wider audience. It does work within the films context so it doesn't ruin it and I honestly think this film would never have been made without it so there we are. Also the beginning feels a little rushed, I would have loved this film to be an hour longer so that the beginning could have a been a bit slower and more believable. This is the fault of the current climate, they would never have gotten away with adding an hour to the length only freaks like me would sit through it!Another slight problem mentioned in the reviews is sound, yes Interstellar is quite hard to hear without being deafened when something big happens so you might have to spend some time getting volume adjusted before watching it all the way through. Or you'll have to keep a finger on the volume button! There seem to be a lot of people complaining about plot-holes and Science errors. Please ignore those people as they did not watch the film properly or are not up to date with current theoretical physics. Every, single, thing, that happens in the film is explained in the film, often multiple times for those too lazy to pay attention. The film can be completely understood in it's entirety watching it just once if you pay attention. Although you will get more from this film the more times you watch it.This is a movie, not a documentary, so you will be asked to suspend your disbelief for the duration but unlike other films which try to be this grand and fail miserably to deliver (looking at you Prometheus) this film succeeds in every way.Is this a perfect movie? Of course not there is no such thing but it's as close as you can get while still being a human. To get the most out of this film you will probably need to be interested in science, human nature, or sci-fi. If you like all three then "why have you not seen this yet?!"In conclusion, I wish it had been an hour longer, I was on the edge of my seat, jaw dropped as soon as Coop drove off in his truck all the way to the end. I simply could not believe a film of this nature COULD still be made and released today, most recent films consisting of "lots of stuff happens really fast, the end". I just hope it does really well because I would like to see more like it.Watch Interstellar, buy, buy, buy!

Masterpiece on 4K UHD
For me this film is a masterpiece. In my opinion Christopher Nolan has the midas touch. His drive to bring such a monumental sci-fi epic to the big screen is truly inspiring as is his desire to be as scientifically correct within the constraints of a money-making endeavour. His approach here, as with so many of his films, is to shy away as much as is possible, from CGI and revert back to models where needed or life size sets where he can.Casting has been spot on and although a minor gripe, Matthew McConaughey's low, breathy voice can be hard to make out at times. But he's at home here in the role of Cooper. Likewise Anne Hathaway et co. Including the young cast members all excel in their roles. Matt Damon brings an amazing quality to the hopeless and frayed Doctor Mann. For me Hans Zimmer's score, though, is the real star of the piece. The use of a church organ for some of the scenes was inspired and works so well to capture the immensity of the subject matter.Nolan's ambiguous Tesseract scene may have many scratching their heads but at the end of the day the director is leaving this for us the viewer to interpret as we see fit. Some more technically minded watchers will complain about the transition from 65mm(?) film to IMAX and back again but frankly I don't understand and at no point has it detracted from my experience of the film.As well as the 4K UHD disc, which is just a pure joy to watch, is a Blu-Ray disc of the film and a third disc (also Blu-ray) with the special features. This has only added to my appreciation for the film, the lengths to which the crew of Interstellar went to to create it. The disc is chock full of features with conception of the story with Jonathan and Christopher Nolan, creating the score with Hans Zimmer, loads and loads and LOADS of stuff regarding effects, filming and the science backing up the film. Also included is a piece on Interstellar space and mankind's place in the universe and our potential for reaching other worlds, narrated by McConaughey. Christopher Nolan is no stranger in these features and he and several cast and crew discuss the undertaking of producing and directing the film. One letdown (for me) has been the overall sound, although amazing in clarity and tone, which has been taken from the way it was played in theatres, meaning the music somewhat overwhelms while the actor's voices are more subdued. Fine if you live out in the middle of nowhere with no neighbours and want to experience it this way. But I found the volume on the remote control was getting a lot of use as I alternated between turning down the music and turning up the dialogue and back again.
