No they do not have chemicals in them. We recommend contacting the manufacturer regarding the safety of use on tattoos.

Are these suitable for automotive use repair etc.

The 60s are thinner than the 80s and 90s which are a woven style. I mainly use my X60s for garage, jetski and automotive maintaince service and cleanup.

What is the softness compared to paper towels or the blue shop towels on a roll?

They are softer then paper towels but not as soft as shop towels. I use these for cleaning with Acetone to which they work perfect. Since shop towels are softer, they become very slick and tough to wipe with.
