Thanks for your question. The cotton is grown and woven in Pakistan. The farm carries a USDA Organic and GOTS certification and the textile mill also holds (GOTS) Global Organic Textiles certification. Both of these certifications ensure social and environmental standards are met in the creation of this product. In addition to this, we engaged auditors to carry out our own social and environmental audit before commissioning this lovely cloth. Working with these growers and weavers is very rewarding and we are proud to offer this truly ethical and environmentally sound product.

Q: Is this cloth clean, ready to use or need washing?

Yes, it is clean and ready to use without washing. Because no chemical sizing agents or bleach are used in weaving the cotton fibers it is safe to use for straining food without washing. It also washes well for reuse many times. I use the same square of cheesecloth to strain my yogurt for many months. It washes well and is very durable.

Q: I read not to use cheesecloth for kombucha. But the quality of this product is good. Will fruit flies get in?

I doubt fruit flies could get it. This cloth is tightly woven and washable. We were having problems with gnats, so covered our sprout jars with this cloth, no bugs!

Q: Could this be used as medical gauze? Looking to build a zero-waste med kit.

Great question. It is a zero-waste plastic-free product. It is absorbent and you can cut it to size so I would say yes it would be useful in a zero-waste first aid kit for bandaging, slings, and wound dressing gauze. Heather Founder Country Trading Co.
