Tammy Wynette: A Daughter Recalls her Mother's Tragic Life and Death

After reading McDonough's great book ........
I wanted to read Jackie's biography of her Mom.....I know she had help but I think she did a great job. It is hard for a child to tell their parent's story when the parent has not been a great parent but the child still has great love for them. I belive Jackie told her own story really well without "trashing" her Mom.....facts are facts and the truth needed to be told if the book was to be written at all. Tammy was like so many women of the region and of the time.....she was so caught up in the drama of her personal life, which unfortunately included one bad choice after another, that she did not spend enough time parenting. Lucky for all of them she made lots of money and was able to take the sting out of that a little bit. Tammy wanted to make it up to her daughters with a nice inheritance......I do not blame them one bit for attemting to fight for it and find out what really happened to their Mom. Everyone that is interested in Tammy's story should absolutely read Jimmy McDonough's most compelling book.....it is biography with an intersesting literary edge....I really loved it....Good thoughts and happiness to Jackie, Gwen, Tina and Georgette...Lleah.

Great book - tragic story
Very interesting perspective. Book arrived with some light wear on the cover but no blemished or wear on the pages. Excellent book if you like celebrity biographies.

A tragedy that was completely preventable had Tammy not married Geirge Richie
A informational book about a tragedy that never should have happened. Looking at everything from her daughter's point of view was very sad. Tammys girls tried their best to take care and warn their mother of her toxic tendancies in life. Her last marriage was a complete mistake and ended with her death. Her girls never saw a dime of their mother's hard earned money nor any personal mementos of their mom's that would have meant the world to them. George Richey was a leech that lived off of Tammy Wynette and made her life miserable. He pulled all of the strings and kept Tammy doped up to do as he pleased. Now he is gone and Tammy's girls still have nothing of their mother's. A sad and horrible thing someone could do to those they supposedly loved.

Give Jackie a break.....
After reading all the customer reviews concerning this book(most of them very negative) I decided to purchase this book and form my own opinion. This book is about a daughter who lost her mother in death, a death that obviously came as a surprise to the entire family, including Tammy's husband, George Richey. Understandably, at least to me, her daughter, Jackie, wanted to know exactly what the cause of her mother's death was. Is that so unreasonable? It's my understanding from reading the book that the doctor who diagnosed her cause of death did so over the telephone without ever even examining the body. This was apparently "good enough" for Tammy's husband, but her daughter wanted a more realistic explanation. George Richey refused to help resolve this very troubling situation, having the belief that Tammy's dead and what does it really matter how she died--nothing is going to bring her back. That (understandably) wasn't good enough for Jackie, so she and her sisters had no choice but to sue Mr. Richey in an effort to find the truth as to what the cause of their mother's death really was.Despite claims by others, I don't view Jackie as a gold digger trying to cash in on the fame of her mother. She has every right to know what happened to her mother and why. If Mr. Richey would have simply cooperated, this book need never have been written. The book is a sad story about a family that has been torn apart by the tragic death of someone they all loved. The fact that Tammy Wynette was a country superstar is the only reason the public is interested in the first place. If this same situation had happened with a non-celeberty family, the same questions would have been asked and the outcome would most likely have been the same. So I say, give Jackie a break. The woman is doing the best she can to try and deal with the death of her beloved mother. Let her grieve in her own way and don't be so judgemental. My heart goes out to her.

Possibly Tom Carter's Best Book
Tom Carter, who co-wrote this book with Jackie Daly, actually did some real reporting in this book as opposed to just parroting what people told him in interviews. I couldn't put it down. It's a very good book if you want to know what happened to Tammy Wynette.
