Our vet was pleasantly surprised
The media could not be loaded. **I tend to write excessively, I apologize in advance for the lengthy review!**Purchased harness in size XL. Have been using this harness for approx 2-3wks at time of this review.Demographics of our dog:8yo Female German shepherdPresurgery 90-95lbs (when we first started using the harness)Injury: complex fracture in front elbow jointSurgery: amputation of entire front legProduct Review:When our GS shattered her elbow joint, we desperately needed a harness due to quite a few stairs and narrow spaces in our home, requiring us to lift and move her about. It would take both my husband and I to lift her and, with him scheduled to deploy very soon, I needed something that would help me lift her on my own. This harness came in CLUTCH with helping our GS move about the home both the days before and after her surgery. While she’s still quite heavy, I am now able to lift her up and down the approx 15 stairs to our bedroom by using the longer straps on my shoulder while also holding onto the back handle. When it was finally time for surgery, we brought her in with the harness. The ortho vet was surprised because it looked nearly identical to the ones they use post-op. They said it was nearly perfect other than being a bit large on her. But they said it was fine since we don’t plan on keeping her in it all day every day.Additional notes:PROS- the harness seems sturdy and secure. I like that it a full body harness and the clips, while being plastic, are large and thick. Also, in order to adjust the size of the straps, it requires a lot of maneuvering because it has a double wound safety feature.- Easy to put on her. Doesn’t require us to lift any legs which was important- We needed full body support. Many on the market are focused on back legs and/or walking, rather than lifting a large dog. I loved that this one in particular has a wider front chest band that’s well padded. Also, the leg holes are large enough and padded so it won’t come in contact/irritate her very large incision site.- It doesn’t impact her ability to go to the bathroom. I read from some buyers that if you have a male dog, it could be an issue but our female dog has no problem.CONS (similar to other reviewers)- our GS is typically an XL to XXXL in everything else in life so I was surprised to see this XL harness being a bit too big on her. I’d advise sizing down from what you would usually order- the hand strap (not the shoulder strap) isn’t particularly comfortable. Honestly, that seems like the least durable part of the entire harness. I just added one of those Velcro wrap around grips from one of our duffle bags around the house to make it a bit more comfortable.

Safe and useful
Got this for my mom to help her carry an elderly dog up a down the stairs. Was worried about her carrying the 30lb dog in front of her, can’t see the steps, and can’t hold the hand rail. This allows her to carry the dog like a suitcase, much safer and the dog prefers it too. Easy to put on, 2 straps around the belly and Velcro neck strap. Use the longer carry strap to do assisted travel, so the dog can still sniff around the yard with a little help. Pretty ideal well worth the price.

The Best Helper Harness for My Dog
I chose this harness because it has features that were better suited to my elder statesdog's needs than other helper harnesses. I needed something that would slow down 68 pounds of 15 year old golden retriever with no depth perception, to keep him steady while going down a ramp to exit the SUV. Like other harnesses, this one distributes weight across the chest, as well as lifting under the dog. The "handle" on top is positioned lengthwise, rather than crosswise, and the harness itself is longer, to provide more support underneath. This works better for us in distributing steady guidance across and further along the dog. There is a second, longer strap that you could, I guess, use to guide and lift your dog with the weight over your shoulder rather than using your hands. This might be do-able to carry a small dog kind of like a shoulder bag, but I can't imagine using it this way with a large dog. The large size was a bit small for my dog, who has a deep chest. The XL fits with the buckles pulled as short as they get. There's a big difference in hardware size between the large and the XL - the buckles on the XL are really big, but they don't bother my dog. Please note: the manufacturer recommends you test the buckles by pulling on them to make sure they aren't faulty - kind of disturbing, as a failure in one of the buckles could be catastrophic. PULL THE BUCKLES TO MAKE SURE THEY LATCH SECURELY BEFORE YOU PUT THIS ON YOUR DOG. That said, the harness seems fairly comfortable - it's soft fabric. It arrived quickly, when we needed it, and it's been a big help to us over the past few months.

Measure your Dog! and compare to other product!
So I have mixed feelings about this product. It is a nicely made vest with adjustable clips to snug the vest for optimal lifting. We originally purchased a different size for our smaller dog a few years ago. he has since recovered. It allowed him to be mobile and seemed comfortable for him to wear. And, we sized it correctly. Measuring your dog is important - don't guess !So why not purchase for a larger dog? Well, because he is larger, less mobile and a different shape! Our smaller dog about 50lbs is stocky and shorter in length. He is an easy all in one lift! Our larger dog is about 90 lbs., a collie, and with the collie-build whip waist who has a broader chest, narrow girth creating imbalance in the lift.As mentioned in a seperate review we purchased this along with the 'Adj. Dog Lift Harness Dog Sling for Large Dogs' (Pick for Life) which we prefer for our needs. It manages the body shape better. Because of the price difference and knowing the Lift Dog Sling serves our purposes better than the Codeo product I will most likely return this vest.

Highly recommend this harness for older / infirm dogs who need support
This harness is SO helpful. Our 75 pound German Shepherd mix is nearing 15 years old and is unstable and needs support - particularly up and down stairs and in and out of the car. We purchased this full body harness and are able to support a good amount of his weight while he climbs stairs etc. and at times when he is just having a harder day and needs a little more help. I previously purchased a different harness but it only provided support in the front / chest. This one covers more of his body and for a dog of his size provides more even support chest to waist. The handle is practical for us to use and the harness adjusts well to his size. and I highly recommend this harness to provide extra support to our older pets.
