Q: Is this coleman part # 5010000712? i'm trying to find a 4d xps battery pack and i don't know if that's the same as cpx.

You cannot recharge batteries in the battery cartridge. It is designed to put 4 D batteries in and snap in as a back up power source.

Depress the 2 latched on ea h end of the word Coleman (opposite each other) @ the same time. The battery unit will come out. The other latch opens the lid to the unit to insert four D batteries.

No, you will (ideally) need to use 4 alkaline D cells. I used 4 rechargeable D cells in the unit, which melted the housing - Coleman sent a replacement stating to use only alkaline D cells. You install the batteries in the cartridge, latch it up, and slide it into the bottom of the lantern, just like the rechargeable battery pack.The charger that comes with the lantern will only charge the Coleman battery pack, not batteries in the 4D Battery Cartridge.
