Dorman 604-001 HVAC Blend Door Actuator Compatible with Select Jeep Models

Few months back, my beloved WJ started blowing only (very) hot air from the center vents. I thought perhaps yet another (!) infamous blend door or recirculation door was broken/stuck inside, where it would take me possibly days to disassemble the whole dashboard area to fix the problem (with unknown part replacement).I was dreading and keep pushing off the heady repair work, then it occurred to me that it could be the blend door actuator itself is broken. I ruled out the blend door actuator initially, because I thought its function was only responsible for hot/cold mix adjustment. But I saw an illustration somewhere suggesting that it's also responsible for directing which way the air comes out. Honestly that's a bit of mystery for me, as I thought it was a very simple 1-axis motor that rotates the blend door, so how can it both mix air AND redirect air flow? Anyway, I was wrong!!So after I replaced the actuator, I was still getting hot air coming out of the center vent, showing the code 52, 54, 56 (vs previously 24, 52, 54). At that point I was pretty sure that I still need to get into the dashboard to get the right fix in. As I was stewing in my frustration, I then READ that I need to recalibrate the actuator after it's been replaced! OF COURSE!!! So I ran out, popped the hood to reset the IOD fuse, and I turned on the ignition (make sure you're in the Auto position). I immediately heard the actuator moving (per infamous creaking blend door sound, which I usually hear when car is off after ~2 minutes), and then I was still getting hot air in the center vent. Then I thought, perhaps the new calibration doesn't kick in, until the next restart... so I restart the car... and IT WORKED!!! No more error codes!!Needless to say I feel pretty stupid having pushed off this repair for the last few months, forgetting to recalibrate after the repair etc. So folks, TWO lessons: 1) if you're having HVAC issues like me, spend few bucks and try replacing the blend door actuator first. 2) Make sure to read the fine manual and don't forget to recalibrate!I love my WJ for all our off-road hiking/camping adventures, and it's unfortunate that it has some major flaws in its HVAC system. But it's usually fixable via blend door surgery / actuator replacement, which is a hassle but not a monumental fix for many DIYers. I am very happy that there was a cheap solution for my issue, and I hope my experience helps you fix yours as well!

Dropped right in my 2003 grand cherokee and functions reat

Bought two of these actuators to replace the two unreachable ones in my 2002 Grand Cherokee when I replaced my heater core. They fit perfectly. And the round white shaft connector has been much improved over the stock OEM model.On the stock units, this white shaft connecter splits after several years. On these units about half of the connector is surrounded by part of the black plastic case material. This doesn't affect the mounting of the unit but it should ensure that the connector will not split.HOWEVER, be warned that the wiring connector appears to be wired backwards and these actuators rotate in the WRONG DIRECTION compared to the stock units! Of course I didn't find this out until after I completely reassembled the entire dashboard. I first noticed it after resetting the automatic zone control unit to clear the previous error codes. It seemed like I had recirculated air when the recirculate light was off and fresh air when the light was on. And then I found the passenger side produced cold air with the temperature set to high and hot air when it was set to low. Funny how everything was fine except the functions controlled by the two new actuators.After pondering the problem for a few minutes, I quickly resolved the issue by removing the AZC connector from the bottom of the HVAC unit and swapping the two wires for each of these actuators. This allows them to rotate in the proper direction and everything works as it should now. Hopefully these will never need to be replaced again.

I purchased this door actuator to replace one on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Ed. This actuator is very solidly built, way better design and functions so much smoother than the original Mopar part. To make things better, it's even way cheaper than the original! Very simple to install with very straightforward instructions included in the product box. Additionally, often times when the original part breaks it breaks at the plastic sleeve that slips over the door arm because Mopar made it so thin. However, Dorman took this into consideration and reinforced this area very well, with a much thicker, much harder plastic. I would recommend this to both family and friends alike. I couldn't ask for a better product!

This is the actuator that changes it from heat to air

Fits the dual zone 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Once you get into the glove box it's just 2 Philips screws and one wire harness. If I need it again I will buy it. This price is hard to beat.
