Q: Pls pour water in mat to determine max volume it will hold - I plan to use under coffee maker to catch water if machine leaks.

One 12x6 mat holds 3/4 cup or 168ml of water. Any more, it would begin to overflow. It was very easy for me to slide it over and across to the sink and pour it out without a single spill. This measurement was taken without anything in it or on it. Keep in mind that it is flexible rubber. It will bow in the center if you lift it with water and try to carry it to a sink (without support underneath), causing it to spill over the center sides (tested it with 1/2 cup as well, still spilled).

Q: Are these mats heat resistant? Could you pull a hot dish out of the microwave and place it on it without worry?

I've put in the dishwasher and never had a problem, so most likely wouldn't have a problem with these. (for reference, the items after washing are usually so hot that they can't be touched with bare hands.)

Q: Are these dishwasher safe?

I do not know, I just take mine to the sink and rinse it off if I notice grinds or coffee drips. I've had it at least a year now, no mold, no build up, no odors, nothing, still good as new.
