An Intriguing Mystery
Nancy Haddock is a new author for me and I really enjoyed this book. The characters are very unique and likable people who are close friends. I love the Silver Six, they take care of each other. Nixy is a strong character and becomes very close to her Aunt Sherry and the Silver Six as she becomes involved with solving a murder. A wonderful adventure that I truly enjoyed. Don't miss this one.

Easy Read with Likeable Characters - The Silver Six
I enjoy reading books about older people who still have spunk and pursue their interests. This book held my interest although I doubted if the six people living together, the Silver Six, could live so peacefully and avoid squabbles.Almost everyone in that town seemed to be very easy-going and helpful, but they all knew each other's business, too. The author was good at character development, and I felt I would miss many of the characters when I finished the book. Yet I wasn't ready to begin the next book in the series; I may do that before long.I enjoyed the mystery included in the story and was glad the focus was not on brutality.

Fantastic Start to a Brand New Cozy Mystery Series
Basket Case is the first book in a brand new cozy mystery series by Nancy Haddock. After receiving yet another call from Lilyvale, the city her aunt lives in, Nixy knows that a trip is in order. Nixy's aunt Sherrie and her 5 roommates, dubbed the Silver Six, are causing disturbances that has Detective Shoar at his wits end. After Nixy arrives unannounced, a rude land developer, Jill Elsman, and her assistant show up full of threats and all around not nice behavior.Later, Jill is discovered by Nixy in the local cemetery deader than a doornail. It's now up to Nixy, the Silver Six, and other townsfolk to unravel why exactly Jill was in town. They also have to figure out who killed her before Nixy's aunt is arrested and thrown in jail for murder. The Silver Six really steal the show in Basket Case. All of Sherry's roommates; Dwight, Maisie, Aster, Fred, and Eleanor, are fantastic characters that have each other's backs. They stand up for each other, defend each other, and support Sherry to the fullest extent possible. All 5 of Sherry's friends are wary of Nixy because she went from not really coming around to getting to Lilyvale and trying to take charge. As Nixy tries to settle in and assure the Silver Six that she's not there to disband the group, she also has to convince the local law enforcement that the Silver Six isn't a threat to the neighborhood. What ensues is a wonderful romp through a small town full of secrets. Sherry is framed for the murder of Jill, but while the police focus on her, all the sane people know it wasn't her - meaning that the murderer is still out there....somewhere.I'm hooked on this series; it's fast paced and engaging. The author created a world and developed characters that are entertaining and realistic. I'm from a small town and everyone knew everything about everyone else. It's what small towns do best. The foundation for a spectacular cozy mystery series has been laid and I can't wait to read how the author builds it up!!I purchased my paperback review copy.

Well-written story with believable characters and story lines
I bought this book mostly because I am a caretaker and love to read mysteries. I figured this might be a nice combination. I was right. The characters were well-developed, and all had definite personalities! The small Arkansas town where the story takes place was so thoroughly described that I have a very clear picture of it in my mind, though I have never been to Arkansas. If the author does not weave baskets herself, she certainly has done enough research to understand a lot of how involved a process it is, and she mentions many of the common materials used. Not many non-weavers even know what a split oak basket is but they are a very old traditional basket tyoe, particularly in the south. So, thanks to Ms. Haddock for the nice attention to detail! The development of the relationship among the Silver Six, as well as between each of them and Nixy, was done well, and I look forward to reading more about all of them.I have often written negative reviews when books are published with numerous errors that make it clear that little or no editing has been done. I am happy to say that this is not the case with this book! I truly enjoyed reading a book in which I don't have to figure out what the author meant because of all of the errors. Thank for this, as well!I will recommend this book to my weaving friends, as well as to those who simply like good stories about Interesting people and places.

I just met some of my new favorite characters and want to be like them when I'm older
I kept hearing what an awesome series this is, and now I get to agree with that! I know just after reading the first book that I'm going to wish there were more than three in this series. I fell in love with all of the seniors and Aunt Sherry, what an amazing group of friends! They were fiercely loyal to one another and would do anything for one of their other housemates. And I really enjoyed the eventually not-so-mysterious 90-something year old lady next door. Overall, I really enjoyed how this series shows how many seniors are after they retire: able, wanting to work and be useful, and they knew their way around technology. No rocking chairs for this crowd. I hadn't guessed the killer until Nixy herself did, and the showdown was really awesome, since it involved everyone. Nixy had worked tirelessly to clear her aunt's name when a land developer was found dead in her family cemetery, and her hard work definitely paid off. I'm so anxious to read the next book, but yet I don't want to hurry through the series, since I'm not sure if there will be any more to it. (I wish there would be!)

Enjoyable reading
I liked this book. I feel it was a bit of a slower start but very happy I continued. The characters became believable and as friends. I will be reading next in the series.

An entertaining start to a series with a fun premise
This has a lot of the cozy crime tropes – small town, a police detective who is interested in the heroine, a quirky group of friends and a hobby/pastime – in this case crafting of various kinds for the aunts. The mystery is quite a good one – the victim is a horrible person so there are plenty of suspects and Nixy being new in town makes her snooping easier and explains why everyone has to tell her all about themselves. It is doing a fair bit of set up introducing the characters as the first in the series, but it’s actually relatively late in the book that it starts dealing with Nixy needing to stay in town – rather than returning to her job at an art gallery in Houston. And even writing that I think you’re probably going to have an idea how that’s going to work! There are a few bits that are a little bit mad, and there are two characters who confusingly had the same first name which threw me when the second one turned up late on, but all in all a fun way to spend a few hours and I’ll pick up the next one so that I can see what happens next.

Unusual little mystery
And I saw that in the nicest possible way. I liked the plot, and the setting of a small rural town is right up my alley (currently living in a town with a population of <180), so seeing all the little dramas, the rampant gossip, and odd cliques forming is so familiar. However, what I wasn’t prepared for was waiting so long for the body to turn up! Yes, you get a good chunk of the book with Hellspawn (yep, just checked. She’s mentioned as going toes up in the synopsis) as she causes havoc among the residents of Lilyvale. This was a fun cosy with a relaxing pace, but don’t let that fool you into thinking there’s no action. There is!3.5 stars ⭐️

Great new series
I loved this book. It has everything a good cozy should have: interesting characters, a likeable heroine, a little romantic interest and a plot that doesn't reveal all in the first chapter. I'm definitely waiting for the next installment!
