Exactly what I was looking for. Tamarind. JUST tamarind.
I bought this tamarind paste to use in a frozen drink I often enjoy at a local restaurant - basically tamarind, a little sugar, and shaved or very fine ice. I LOVE this drink and tamarind has a number of health benefits so I wanted to be able to make it myself at home using a small amount of honey as sweetener instead. Many of the tamarind pastes seem to have sugar added - this one does not. It's just tamarind. Some reviewers said this was bitter, but bitter is a whole other flavor, this is however, sour or tart, and that is exactly what I was looking for. I will definitely be buying this again. The only reason I haven't ordered more already is that I had to be out of town and not home to use what I have. I noted before ordering that many reviewers had received a discounted product in exchange for review. I did not. I paid full price and expect pay full price in the future. Considering the hassle of finding tamarind pods and making paste myself, I have no problem with that, the price is very reasonable and the product just what I was hoping for.

Delicious!
I'm new to tamarind, but I love it! I read it helps detox fluoride, so I'm using it for that, and the side benefits of culinary enjoyment. I put a little with my olive oil and vinegar salad dressing, and use it in various dishes, like roasts and stir fries. It's a delightful addition to many dishes, and a great way to get rid of excessive fluoride, which I recently read as little as 1 ppm (which is what is added to most water supplies in backward USA) increases tumor growth by 25%. I wonder how that adds up as it accumulates over time, partially due to the low iodine intake most Americans suffer from as well (fluoride displaces iodine, leading to all kinds of health issues). Anyway, great stuff. Tastes very fresh.I docked one star because of packaging. Prefer glass jars.

Not flavorful enough for Thai and Vietnamese cooking
I bought this to use in Thai and Vietnamese dishes. It wasn't nearly as flavorful as the blocks of Tamarind paste I'd bought elsewhere. In fact, it was so bland that it ruined, first, home-made Pad Thai and second, a Vietnamese fish dish. Maybe it's wonderful for other purposes -- but not for my Thai and Vietnamese cooking. I threw it out.

Bitter
I have had tamarind fruit and thought this would be easier to use for detoxing fluoride, drinking in a tea. It was very bitter compared to the actual fruit and I'm not sure I can handle it, but it was worth a shot. It was like drinking lemon juice. If you are looking to use it in this manner, it might not be the best way to use it. My next step is to try tamarind paste and see if that tastes like the fruit from the pod and isn't so bitter.

I received what I ordered but am disappointed that the product is set to expire in a couple of months. I feel like I will end up wasting money because it will go bad before I will use it. Tried to find an individual seller to discuss, guess I'll have to see if Amazon will replace.

This is sooo yummy!
I recently got into making Kombucha, and after falling in love with tamarindo (tamarind drink) in Mexico, I thought it would be a great idea to make tamarind Kombucha. I wasn't wrong. It was so good! This is the only brand of tamarind I've ever bought, and will be my go-to forever. The quality is superb, and it's so easy to pour and measure. I like another customer's question about freezing it in ice cube trays, so I will try that in the future, although I'm hoping to make enough tamarind Kombucha that I never have any tamarind left over. A real tropical delight!

Tamarind Pulp
I received this today and it is different then I was expecting. Previously I've used a tamarind concentrate and in the item description it says Tamarind Paste - Tamarind Pulp - Tamarind Concentrate. It is tamarind pulp and on the packaging it says to use it as you would fresh tamarind. It is quite a bit different from the concentrate I've used in the past and I'm unsure how much to use for the equivalent of concentrate (which is what the recipe I'm using calls for).I like the packaging better than the plastic container the concentrate comes in.

Yummm! I have been looking for a great tamarind paste for a while and this one is just what I was looking for. As far as thai home cooking is concerned, it is incredibly hard to achieve the same mouth watering results as a thai restaurant. However, I was able to create a pretty delish pad thai at home in my own wok using this paste as the base and an online recipe from a thai native. This paste is also a better price than most options I was finding in the grocery store. Although I was not able to exactly achieve 5 star restaurant quality results, I am overall very pleased and will be buying again!
