Q: Are these tools an appropriate size for a six-year old, or are they too small?

Depends on the size of your 6 yr old. My daughter is about 38 inches tall and they are a little big for her. I would say they would be perfectly sized for someone around 45 inches tall or so.

Q: What is the material: plastic or metal?

It's wood with metal and rubber/hard plastic for the handle. We bought them for our 2 1/2 yr old but my teen boys, my husband and myself have used them too! We love them!

Q: Do the colors of the tools match the picture or are they random?

Yes they do. I was very impressed with the quality of them. I also received a very nice email from the company thanking me for my purchase. I'm planning on ordering another set for my other granddaughter who loves to garden.

Q: Why does this product have a ca prop 65 warning? do the plastic handles have phthalates?

I don’t know why they have a warning but the handles are made of wood and the shovel, rakes, and hoe are metal. They are sturdy and the perfect size for a 2 to 4 year old.
