Is the a DA lens with quick shift or the DA L that comes with the K-50 kit? It says quick shift, but I wonder what people have recd

I'm not quite sure what the "quick shift" is. I don't own a K-50. This lens is ok. I would recommend getting a sigma 18-50 2.5 or sigma 17-70 2.5-4. Much better quality. Costs about twice as much but it is worth it.

is this compatible with the K-R model?

Meant to give a more complete answer before. With the exception of the much older screw mount lenses, you can use just about any bayonet style pentex lens with a K-r. One of the many benefits of using a Pentax camera!

What is this camera lens thread size?

Hi SammyC - Pentax uses a Bayonet Type System, Called a " K-Mount "...that is unique to Pentax and also Sigma Cameras. You can find the filter thread size by looking up the lens on Amazon...they usually have the filters available just below the write-up on the lens.

Does this come with a lens hood?

Yes, the WR version of the 18-55 lens comes with a lens hood. However, Pentax does sell a less expensive version of the lens with identical optics but with a plastic mount, no weather resistance, no quick shift focus and no hood. I think it is worth the extra $100 to get the WR version.
