A book that overpromised and underdelivered
This book overpromised and underdelivered: very little of this book takes place in India (although the cover, title/series title, and synopsis may make you think otherwise), action is incredibly slow in places, and then there's a rushed ending that seems to have missed the mark of a proper narrative arc. I was expecting a version of PBS' Indian Summers with this book, but it was nothing like that in the least.

Agh! Why can’t there be more HEA??
Another interesting story that abruptly ends when the heroine FINALLY finds true happiness! The beginning of this book was hard to listen to, when Clary and Olive had to live with their dreadful cousin-in-law. I stuck with it… the whole book was interesting. But good grief… I don’t understand the concept of writing a long book of hardship to end with quickly declared love and a few kisses. :( Am I the only one out there that needs a whole lot more HEA?? 😏

Love This....
Bought this book and loved it so much, I have since bought the other two in the series! I love reading about far away lands, cultures, foods and the author makes you feel like you are living in the moment. I have lost sleep reading this....Hubby has had to get up at midnight a few times, to see if I was coming to bed. LOL Great Reading!

Loved the characters and story line
I loved this two series book and was so bummed that it has not kept going. I do keep watching to see if the story continues. I have a high stress career and read my kindle for enjoyment and to destress and relax. I really enjoyed this story and hope there is a future sequel for this character.

Interesting delve into history and life in India in early 1900s
I found the English life of that Era so interesting. Racism was so blatant and people of wealth lived such an abnormal artificial life. The story was interesting although not entirely plausible. Should think anyone of the standing of Robson would kiss a stranger at first meeting. Although I suppose the whole love story was about that first kiss. Rather spoiled and cheapened the plot though. Otherwise I enjoyed the book

The Tea Planter's Daughter - Meh
This story had so much potential but didn't take advantage of it. The main heroine is a combination of Pollyanna and Anne of Green Gables but one that never grows up. She is downright irritating. This may be as close as I've ever come to dnf'ing a book.

Twisty Plot
This book goes up and down on a twisty road through the world of tea planters. But the author does make a real page turner with much historical detail. The author emerges as a real storyteller by the end of the book. Curiosity of the outcome will have you up all night to finish this wonderful book.

Tea and Sympathy from India to Tynside
A beautifully written novel which, though ultimately a story of love, is never self regarding. Initially the scene setting in the Assam region of India is heart warming and inviting but underneath there are enough dark clouds to cause a tempest. The drawing of the different characters and personalities will have any sensitive reader spitting venom. I shouted criticism of some of the offenders out loud and took no prisoners in wishing Clarrie and her good and proper friends so much warmth and success. Sadly the human race was found severely wanting with the behaviour of the offending forces inviting their most unpleasant removal from society. JMT draws the respective attitudes of the so called working classes and their supposed betters with an insightful and cruel reality, reminding us that there is good and bad in all stratas of people with the kindliness and the despicable shared out randomly. The race element that is never far from the surface is, as ever, distasteful to good thinking people and a reminder of how two World Wars brought about such a change in attitudes while failing to cleanse the human race of its natural evil. This book will appeal to all who are interested in human behaviour before the first World War and the terrible consequences of young men-and horses- being dragged off to fight a war prompted by a power crazed and self obsessed tyrant.*/

A family drama well told
This book reminds me of Little House on the Prairie. A story about family, success through hardwork and the appreciation of the things they have. Also, no matter how tough life could be, there is always a silver lining. This story is very well written with characters you’ll learn to love. There is no one who is a villain here, so the story kinda sail through everything, storm or calm weather. I think what represents a bad circumstance is the period and the environment where they live, the time of war and uncertainties. But the courage and the determination of each character who eventually find success and true love are good motivation. Sometimes we really need this kind of feel-good story to remind us there is always good no matter what.I like this feel-good charm. This is Book One of the Planter series. There are three more and I have them all. Will read later.

Just Wonderful!
Audio Version - Janet Macleod Trottor does it again. Having listened to two previous books by her I was really looking forward to starting this series. She has an art for writing amazing stories with a great cast of characters that you get swept up in. I devoured this book and could not stop listening, well only to sleep. As in her previous books, her descriptions of people and places have a way of turning them into reality in your mind. She stirs up so much emotion in me that I cried on several occasions throughout The Tea Planters Daughter. So be ready with the tissues. I'm so looking forward to starting book 2. I would while heartedly recommend.

Gripping storyline
The storyline moves along at a good pace and had me gripped from the start - some parts were sad and almost had me in tears - but the main character, Clarrie, is very strong and faces life with fortitude what ever is thrown at her. There's a real stubborn streak to her though, which means she holds back from true romance until the end . . . but the "will they, won't they" has you holding your breath throughout, making this a very good read indeed!

I loved this heart warming book
I can't wait to read the second book in this series. I really enjoyed it. Going from the beautiful Indian setting of her childhood on the tea plantation, Clarrie's family face poverty. Following the death of their father, she and her sister Olive are forced to move to the North of England. They are nothing more than slaves. Leading a heart breakingly hard life, they can only hope for things to get better . A cracking book.
