Nice and simple recipes, packed with nutrition
Wow! The last time I was compelled to write a review on a cookbook was when the book was so bad, I couldn't bring myself to donate it and threw it away. I can say that this is not the case this time. I love cookbooks and cooking with fresh ingredients. I am starting my journey to healing my gut and was worried about what I would eat. So many diet plans have odd meals that are impossible to sustain life with and even more impossible to take to work for lunch or eat on a week night. At first glance, the sample meal plan had me worried. That was quickly quieted as soon as I started looking at the recipes. This cookbook proved to me that I can do this food style transformation and enjoy what I eat.I found this book easy to read. No stories, no extra words, just the recipes with well photographed and realistic photos. I was impressed that there wasn't any self promotion of Dr. Axe's own products. I find this an unfortunate trend. One reviewer said it was hard to follow (?). That confused me. This book is as straight forward as you can get. The ingredients can be found in any store, with maybe the exception of Bragg's Liquid Aminos, which I will be substituting coconut aminos due to eliminating soy from my diet. Oh yeah, he has several smoothies and a few snacks that require bone broth protein powder and collagen protein powder. Those are expensive luxuries, but the recipes call for only 2 tablespoons of powder, so a tub of powder would last a long time. The recipes that call for a powder doesn't bother me so much. I think I could make ice cubes out of bone broth and substitute them for the powder in some recipes. I will otherwise skip making the others. Honestly, I think there is a little bit for everyone in this book. Plenty of soup recipes, some nice sides that should appeal to anyone and chicken and beef are the main protein sources. There could have been a few more fish meals, but I think everyone can find something that makes them happy. Including snacks and desserts. I tend to be thrifty (a.k.a. as cheap) when buying cookbooks. I have to say, that I don't regret every penny spent on this book. It is worth the money.

Really Helpful and Tasty Recipes
This is a very well done book. My doctor suggested it to me after I had another diverticulitis flare up and needed to take it easy as my gut recovered. The typical "low residue" diet is pretty awful. Dr. Axe does a very nice job of providing dozens of recipes that help you recover. Not one meal has caused me problems and I am eating healthy, unlike the typical "white diet" suggested for recovery from a flare up. I greatly appreciate what he has done and my doctor for pointing me in his direction!

Great book for gut health
Fantastic book--lots of pictures, great easy recipes with simple ingredients (you can find in a local grocery store or at Amazon), and a nice variety of choices. The book is rather small page wise, but packs a punch with good recipes that anyone will like. I like that the ingredients are all good for my gut. Dr. Axe uses mostly Paleo, and stays away from many known allergens. This, together with Carol Fenster's cookbooks, will help you make some really healthy meals that are gut friendly. I am a health conscience cookbook collector and this is one of my favorites to keep on hand.

Kindle version does not support highlights or notes
This has lots of good information, but does allow you to highlight important points to help you summarize key points. That limits its usefulness.

A helpful guide in healing my gut after antibiotics
This has made going paleo after antibiotics damaged my microbiome wayyyyy easier. Haven't found a recipe that my spouse and I do not enjoy--I will say the brownies turn out more like cake due to the number of eggs in the recipe. Dr. Axe does seem to know his stuff and the food in this cookbook will help your body heal!

Good guidelines. I still cannot eat animal products even if organic but the book answers many questions which my DR could not answer. His answer is cortisone!
