Does what it says on the ‘tin’!
Good value product, colours are rendered nicely when paired with pro filter. Sharp edge to edge (even open wide at infinity compared to 2.8G 14-24) plus light weight so can carry with kids in tow. Perfect for low light hand held and can crop to suit if necessary (although I prefer to shoot first time and capture subject in context). Bokeh is nice if subject is very close!

Super Sharp
Not a scientific judgement here, but what has amazed me with this lens is that I have seen things zooming in in post processing that I could not see with the naked eye at the time. It's like going back to the place I took the photo with a pair of virtual binoculars. Given it's wide angle, that was a surprise and is not something I could do with less capable lenses. Now these are details I won't see in the final print unless I go very, very big (I am zooming in on a 4k 27" monitor). But it tells me two things - I am sharp well beyond where I need in most cases, which I prefer. And if see a better tighter crop after the fact, I can crop in and it will still be sharp. If I had a D810, that would be even more useful, but even at 24MP on a D750 it helps. Compared to the ubiquitous 18-200 for example (on a D7100), this 20mm is very much better in the final analysis. Sharpness is only one aspect of performance of course, although perceived sharpness is affected by several things (like contrast, chromatic aberration etc), so overall quality may be in part responsible for this sense of sharpness. For astro you do need to find the focus point by manual means - several ways to do it. Nikon recommend auto focusing in daylight, switching the lens to manual and taping the focus ring with masking tape to stop it getting knocked.

Better than the 14-24 f/2.8 & the Zeiss 21mm
BEAUTIFUL Professional untra wide, I'm a professional and have used many lenses in this focal range, and this is the singular standout for optical quality. It's also small, light, and takes filters. The disadvantage of all this amazingness is the fragility, it won't take a fall well but it's a third of the price of an inferior 14-24 so I'm glad all the money was spent on the optical design and lens elements.

Top notch Prime lens !!!
I purchased this lens for landscape photography, and I am so glad I did. Absolute cracking sharp lens. Light, portable, 77mm filter thread. Makes fabulous sunstars. It is my go to lens for landscaping. Fabulous....well worth every single penny :)

Great starburst effect around lights
Stunning detail / quality across the f stop range. Used it on several low ISO, long shutter speed, landscape shots and it still continues to impress me. Great starburst effect around lights. Used it in low light, and hand held, underneath the Eiffel Tower and the detail was incredibly good. Would recommend this to anyone using an FX - full frame - camera

Great lens.
Wanted a wide angle to compliment existing 28-300 lens. This is perfect for working during wedding do's and am so glad I had rejected the 16-35mm a few months earlier as being too bulky. This 20mm lens is light in weight. No need for me to sing it's praises; you can read them from lab and pro users' web sites.I also like the 77mm filter size (same as other lenses in the collection) and recent Nikon cameras can correct the vignetting in the firmware.

Is it sharp? Yes!
I'll let you judge how sharp this lens is from my photos (handheld on a D700)Fairly inexpensive for a 'N' lens and versatileReasonably lightweightI'd recommend a Hoya filter (I have the PRO1 digital) in order to protect the front element

Disappointed. After receiving this Nikkor 20mm f/1
Disappointed. After receiving this Nikkor 20mm f/1.8G ED and compared it with my Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G and 24-70mm f/2.8G at 24mm on a subject at moderate distance, this 20mm f/1.8G ED turned out to be the worst in image quality. It's not a bad lens! The low light focus and close-distance focus appeared to be great. I intended to buy this 20mm to replace my 28mm for need of shooting ultra wide. But my hands-on comparison (I won't call it a test, as it's very practically eye view of the images on the camera) shows it's less sharp than the 28mm and 24-70mm at 24mm. Given others' positive reviews, may be possible I got a poor copy. It's known to us that sometimes Nikon lens quality lacks consistency in different copies (I had such an experience when I bought my 24-70mm f/2.8G). So, I had to return the 20mm f/1.8G ED I ordered. I hope Nikon would do something to improve their quality control if they read my review.Post-note: After returning it back, I ordered it from a different supplier and was very satisfied: very sharp at full open through to f16, AF as the spec expected, beautiful colour dynamics (I use it with D810), fantastic sun/light burst. Now I'm convinced the Nikon AF-S 20mm f/1.8 G ED is an excellent lens. But you have to be careful don't get a poor copy. I hope Amazon will sort it out with Nikon to ensure the quality reliability.
