Q: What is the benefit to buying this expensive bridge device vs using virtual desktop to play wirelessly? Is the gameplay more stable?

I'd say it depends on the setup, for me I originally bought it due to my internet not being able to consistently handle VD as well as the game i was playing, so I had hoped this would resolve that issue, and it does when it works, the gameplay is smooth, and the connection is great, it's just when it doesn't connect or I have to factory reset it multiple times just to get it to allow connection to my compute via quest link, then it becomes too annoying and I go back to VD.

Q: Why wont this work on a wirelessly connected pc? It seems like a device like this would be best used in a spot of the house without a good connection.

If you need a device that will work on a wirelessly connected pc consider DWA-X1850. The DWA-F18 VR Bridge uses specific Oculus (Meta) VR drivers. DWA-X1850 uses operating system drivers for Windows or Linux and can perform as a standard IEEE 802.11ax client device. Yes, Wi-Fi compatibility with Airlink has nothing to do with this device. It is recognized as a router and will work with Quest 3.
