One of the best prog albums you've never heard of
Am absolute masterpiece of Prog a rock from the Italian masters, it is music to sink into, not a bad track on it, but of I had to pick a stand out of would be E Fěsta, which had a sort of Focus feel to it. If you live prog but have no PFM, start here

Great album that deserves better sound and some decent liner notes. Perhaps someone out there will oblige. Pisa, Pizza, and PFM - bella!

Solid debut release
The Italian progressive rock group 'P.F.M's debut album, sung in Italian, is an impressive one although, for me, the follow-up L.P 'Per Un Amico' is the best of the first three released in their native tongue (the other being L'isola Di Niente'). The strongest parts of 'Storia...' are the instrumental passages; the lyrics get somewhat lost in the mix and needed boosting - something that was addressed on later recordings. Anyway, send off for this at a reasonable price and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

A compelling argument for progressive rock

The opening of Introduzione and Impressione di Settembre take you on a journey from brittle innocence to epic emotional power in a few minutes, incorporating a wonderfully memorable synthesizer line.2. Overall, the instrumentation - acoustic and electric instruments and vocal harmonies blending like finely-judged watercolours - is unique and beautiful.3. The musicianship is superb throughout: sensitive periods of quiet, big instrumental themes, playful flute, classical guitar, heavy rock rhythms and springy jazz waltz.4. You can listen to individual songs or take in the whole thing in one sinuous rising-and-falling whole.Forty years after its release, this still sounds fresh, youthful and inspired. It incorporates all the audacity and adventure that made progressive rock - briefly - so exciting.Want to make a short list? Try naming prog discs that are better than this.
