Brilliant sound, brilliant display
DisplayThe big bright green display on this clock is perfect –I can read it from across the room in bright daylight (I am a bit red-green colour blind and I can only read the red displays many clocks have in dim light). There is also a dimmer setting which you can use at night, though personally I prefer the Eco setting which is bright when the radio is on and dims after a minute or so when it is off. It is still bright enough to read in full daylight.RadioOn FM the radio really 'grabs' each station and locks onto it, giving spot on tuning. The reception here in Kent is average and I found the radio easily sensitive for pulling in weaker stations with zero background hiss. The backwards-facing speaker seemed odd at first but I soon got used to it.AlarmsThe booklet has been produced by people who can actually write clear instructions and the diagrams are accurate and appropriate. I didn't find setting the alarms at all difficult and they stay put even if you unplug, walk to another room and plug the radio back in - a very good feature. There are two independent alarms so you can set different alarm times for weekdays and weekends, for example, or two different times each day. The LEDs which light up to show the day of the week is a great feature too, and the radio stores the date, so it can automatically change the hour for summer and winter time on the right day.I spent a lot of time choosing this radio and it ticked a practically all of the boxes for me. A good, solid analogue radio with a great display.

Quality and easy to set-up
Very pleased to have decided on this top quality radio alarm; previous feedback was very helpful. Particularly like the sound quality for both speech and music, the ability to alter screen brightness, the battery back-up so no worry about missing a flight or the train in the event of a night time power-cut and very straight-forward set-up, done in minutes of opening the packaging, including setting one alarm for weekdays and the second alarm for weekends. FM radio is great, mono not stereo, but so good that I wonder whether DAB could make much difference. When I want to listen in DAB stereo I will put our main sound system on; this is a radio alarm ! The screen is an ideal size to see in the night for spectacle-wearers like me. There's now a new eco-function linked to the screen brightness on the Chronoplus 2; maybe a small electrical saving over the year. Competitively priced too.

Just does not work, sadly!
I returned the first one, thinking that it was just faulty. Very kindly and with speed the replacement came. It had similar faults and it too is being returned this week. It is a lovely idea to have an alarm clock that can wake you up at different times each day. This product has a mind of it's own. Some days the alarm will come on radio and others it will beep. Some days the radio will stay on for 50 mins and others it will be 15 mins and then start beeping. Others it will beep only once every 15 mins. On another day it will come on radio for a few minutes and then go off. The time is always 4 minutes fast. It looks lovely and smart. It is a shame they haven't got the quality control right on this product so that it does what they say it does. Could have been great!!!

Radio could be better as signal poor and we have tried to place ...
The display is almost too bright and very large, tried dimming it but only drops one level and should allow for a further decrease. Works ok and does what it should. Radio could be better as signal poor and we have tried to place the aerial in all sort of places but to no avail. I would definitely opt for a smaller display clock in future unless you have bad eyesight!

Review Roberts Chronoplus2
I have had this unit two days and must say I am very impressed. I am of a certain age where my eyes are not what they were. My wife laughed when she first saw it on the Dressing table. The digits are quite substantial; 35mm in height, that’s around 1” 5/16 inches, in old money. The digits are bright, but do not illuminate the room. Setting it up is very easy, it uses switches and buttons instead of Menu based programming, it has every feature I require, Weekday alarm, Weekend alarm, Everyday alarm and Snooze. In my area the sound quality is superb, but that brings me to why I only gave it 4 stars, NO Dab. Roberts do Dab radio alarms, but not with displays like this, so no radio4 extra for me.

Only One Tiny Flaw
Radio alarm looks good, has a very large display screen and settable brightness. Starts itself as soon as you plug it in and sets the time and date, however it may pay you to check the time as ours was 5 min out. No problem to re set and everything else is easy to set up. Dual alarm means you can have different alarm times and also different day settings which also display on the left side of the screen. The only flaw is when using the radio as the alarm it comes on at the volume you set and not, as I am used to, a gradual increase in volume. Not a deal breaker, but a pity it does not have this feature. No problem with radio reception and the sound has a good tone which is pleasant to listen to.

Excellent
Bought this Roberts clock radio to replace an ageing Panasonic one. This has everything we wanted from a clock radio, battery back up in case of power cuts or spring/autumn time changes, nice clear display, the ability to set the alarms for all week but not the weekends (this is a great feature for us as it means that once set you don't have to remember to reset the alarm at all - it goes off all week but not at weekends - unless you set it for weekends of course. The alarm is LOUD, loud enough to have you standing to attention by your bed, bayonets fixed, before its finished its first blasts of ear shattering shrieks - you do get accustomed to this though - if not you can always wake up to the radio instead. This clock is not radio controlled but it has kept perfect time since we got it. Very easy to set up simply remove the battery protector and leave the machine to do everything all set up and ready to go in a couple of minutes. We're very happy with this product and would recommend it. N.b. (added 1/12/14) we have found the clock does gain approx 4 minutes in a year. Still satisfied though.
