I love this book
I love this book. I go with 4 stars because it is a little frustrating for the following reasons: Ms Peatherbridge loves to write - to a fault. It is verbose to the extent that I suspect, for all of its scholarship, the author could say what she needs to say with 1/2 the words. It is also VERY disturbing to read a description, or even reference to a work that is not represented as an illustration. I am early in the book and have encountered this several times. SO - I think this would be a classic bestseller if it had half the verbiage (but still made all of the points) and twice the illustrations. Otherwise it is an awesome effort.

A must for those who love drawing
A must for those who love drawing and understand its importance both as an art in itself and a tool for other forms of art but especially as an artform to be taken seriously. This is a comprehensive and high quality publication which stands head and shoulders above many other drawing books.

Ok
Eh. Another interesting set of views about the essential role of drawing throughout history. No real revelations if you are current with the medium and history, but fun to read anyway if you are a fan of the medium.

A long wait, but worthwhile
This is a very important work about drawing, very insightful and well-researched.Annoyingly, it took for ever to arrive, much longer, several months, than usual.

Anyone interested in drawing needs to read this book.
Course reference material essential reading. Deanna Petherbridge provides an insight and extremely thorough investigation into the complete drawing process and how drawing is used in different ways by a variety of artists with vastly different styles but they are all united by the act of drawing.

A Brilliant Book
A brilliant book, absolutely -- imaginative, learned, thorough, keenly intellectual, and beautifully illustrated. I don't see how any other book on drawing can stand up to it.
