Q: Hi, in the description is saying that the pan has protective coating, what does it mean? Does the pan have any coating?

Hi, these pans have no non stick coatings ( harmful plastics) but they are counted in order to stop them from going rusty after manufacture , you have to wash this off first before seasoning your pan. They give full details on how to do this, but I recommend not using vegetable fats for seasoning or frying with as they break down when heated and create a type of plastic film on the pan surface that is difficult to clean off, olive oil is fine or I use lard, just clean pan in hot water and re-season as required, the non stick performance improves over time. These pans are excellent and will last decades, hope you buy some and enjoy many years cooking with them.

Yup, you and I are referring to the same pan (most useful on the hob: sauté potatoes, yumm!). But, not least for seasoning, it needs to go in the oven occasionally: remember that can be a front-to-back measurement rather than side-to-side . . . I make the outside distance from handle-to-handle 43 cm, so it’s a bit of a monster (and heavy!) but well worth while if you have the space. Tip for seasoning: coat it in oil and put it in a hot oven upside down; that avoids the cold spots you get on the hob.
